Thursday
marks the 13th anniversary of the attacks on the United States in New York and
Washington, D.C. While truly tragic, it
was also a day which demonstrated the incredible will and strength of the human
spirit. There were as many stories of
heroism as there was destruction. We
witnessed countless acts of bravery and selflessness. And these are only the stories we know. Many of the incredible stories forever died
with the victims.
The
following is a brief timeline of the day’s events.
At 8:45 am, the
first plane crashed into the North Tower of the World Trade Center. The crash instantly killed hundreds of
innocent people and trapped hundreds more above the 110th
floor. While emergency crews sprang into
action, a mere 18 minutes later, a second plane crashed into the South
Tower. It was evident to all, this was
not a coincidence, the United States was under attack.
At 9:45 am, a
third plane crashed into the Pentagon.
The jet fuel caused a devastating fire causing a small structural
collapse.
15 minutes after
the Pentagon crash, the South Tower collapsed.
It was less than one hour from the time the plane crashed into the
building to when it fell to the ground.
At 10:10, the country became aware of a fourth
plane wreck. United Flight 93 had left
the Newark airport late. 40 minutes
after departure, terrorists took control of the plane. The passengers on the plane, aware of the
events of New York and Washington, decided to take action. They overtook the terrorist and in the
process crashed the plane into a Pennsylvanian field. All aboard were killed instantly.
At 10:30, the
inevitable occurred. The North Tower of
the World Trade Center collapsed. While
the nation watched in awe, the brave firefighters, police officers and other
city officials continued to respond to their call to duty. Due to the devastation created when the Twin
Towers collapsed, four other building would fall to the ground during the
day.
As the day
concluded we began to hear the devastating carnage from the day. In New York City approximately 3,000 people
were killed, including 343 firefighter and paramedics, 23 police officers and
37 Port Authority officers. In
Washington, DC, 125 military personnel and civilians were killed at the
Pentagon in addition to the 64 people on board the flight. An additional 45 people were killed in the
Pennsylvanian field from Flight 93.
Since
this day, the world has changed dramatically.
For example, we have increased security at airports and ball games. We are much more aware of extremist groups
and their acts of terror. Likewise, we
have built a new building at the site and commissioned a museum so that we never
forget what happened.
Do
you think the world is safer or more dangerous since September 11th? Why?
If you could lead the nations of the world, what would be your plan to
achieve world peace? Details please…..

No the world is still dangerous after 911 because people are still killing other people and bad stuff like wars in Iraq is happening even though 911 was one of the worst things that had ever happened to the U.S besides the World War 2. If I lead the nations of the world I would stop wars that will kill other people. My plan for world peace is that I want to try to help get along so then peace would occur.
ReplyDeleteThe Country is better but the world is definetely the same if not worse because of ISIS and Syria and Ukraine And Russia. If I was leader I would fix the problem between Ukraine and Russia then isis
ReplyDeleteI think that the world is safer since 9/11, because, if you think about it, now the security is way tighter when you are getting on a plane. There have been a bunch of incidents where people have tried to sneak weapons in, and they have been caught, thanks to more security. The attack of September 11th was devastating, but it helped our country. If I were the leader of all nations, I wouldn't try to force anything to stop. It would just make people angrier. What happens with a dictatorship is that eventually, people rebel, so I would negotiate. If everyone had the same access to resources, wars would not break out as frequently. I would try to help everyone lead a good life, and accept each others differences.
ReplyDeleteHonestly, it's a yes, no situation. Yes, because as stated above we have increased our security measures we know what terrorist acts are going on and so on. However, no because as our technology for security and other safety measures is raising so is the technology of the terrorists. Meaning it has become much easier to kill now, which is really scary. I would have to agree with Leah if I were leader I wouldn't force anything on the people and I would negotiate rather then fight. Yes, I know many past leaders have said this, but I would listen to the people, take in their ideas.
ReplyDeleteI think the world is a lot more safer since 9/11. I think this because we never know if any terroism is going to happen again and we have to be prepared. If we aren't prepared then bad things are going to happen. I think we just have to expect the unexpected. If i lead the nations of the world my plan to make world peace would be to listen to everybodies thoughts, ideas, and opinions. I would have to be good listener and instead of just saying I am going to do stuff I would have to take action and not wait around.
ReplyDeleteThe world will never be safe. No matter how many metal detectors we put in an airport, and if there are other terrorists out there that are clever enough to fly planes into the World Trade Centers, terrorism is nearly unstoppable. Now that said, if I were a world leader, the first steps I would take would be to identify the groups and alert the county that is being occupation. Having a military at my disposal, we could occupy and eliminate the terrorist groups. One. At. A. Time without having to worry about 300 schoolboys executed by Islamic militants.
ReplyDeleteI think the scale has not tipped. I do believe that america has shown that we are strong and that we have more security but other countries don't have that. Even if we have new security, weapons are always getting harder to find. If I were a world leader, I would try to keep track of people. I know that it is stalking but that is the only way to guarantee safety. I also would not hesitate at taking action with my army. I would also devote a lot of the army to hunting down the terrorists.
ReplyDeleteI actually do think that the world is safer after the horrible 911 attack, because we are now so much more aware of the threats that are out there. Before 911, not a lot of really big terrorist threats had ever occurred. But after this tragedy, security everywhere tightened, especially in big, important buildings and airports. It was a real eye opener for the US, and the world. I know it's a really horrible thing to say, but without the 911 attack, the world would have a lot more problems. For starters, airplanes would not be nearly as safe as they are today. There would be more hijacks, shootings, and crashes. No one would want to travel by plane. Secondly, terrorist threats would become much more frequent. Bombings, shootings, and threats in general would become a part of everyday life. It I were leader for just one day, I would tighten security even more, because, although it's a big pain, it could potentially save lives. I would also tighten security on the borders of Mexico and Canada, so that terrorists have a harder time getting in the country at all. As for the whole world, I would try to promote peace, by forming safe houses where terrorist organizations and government officials can communicate peacefully.
ReplyDeleteI think that the world is not necessarily safer or more dangerous. There are a lot of bad things happening in the world now too, even though we increased security. Just because it is harder now to get away with terrorism doesn't mean it will not be done. It was bad before but we didn't hear about it. To stop terrorism I would make an alliance with other countries that don't like terrorism and we would take part of our armies and set them out to hunt down terrorists. This way there are more people helping search out one group at a time.
ReplyDeleteI think that what happened 13 years ago was tragic, but it brought our country closer togther. I also think that the world is safer now that 9/11 has happened because now in America there is security check points, locked coc-pits, flying has become so much safer than it was before. If Iwas one of the many leaders in this world, my plan to achieve world peace would be showing other countries and leaders that children are being killed in countries because of this war and showing them the reality of this world and how sad it is. I would also stop ISIS for good with what ever it would take because whatr they are doing is terrible.
ReplyDeleteI think that the world is more dangerous since 9/11. The US came closer as a nation and increased security in airports by getting more equipment, but although security has increased here, there are still terrorist groups out there that want to destroy the US. For example, in Iraq there is a terrorist group called ISIS. They are still claiming to be enemies of the US. Since security has increased, so has unnecessary information storage. So more of our information is accessible to hackers. If I were to lead the nations of the world, I would want to create a peace treaty. I would bring a white flag, a symbol of surrender, and a gift, showing that we want to be in peace and do not want to go to war. If a war torn country does not accept my gift, I would do my best to save the people in that country. So in the end, every single country would sign a peace treaty and terrorist groups will be gone.
ReplyDeleteThe attack on our country on 9/11 was tragic. Yet our country, i think, has become a safer more protected place because of it. This event brought our country closer together and it shows how we can help one another when we all pitch in. I think being the leader the leader of the world, especially when this was happening, would be a lot of pressure to save the world and to keep everything under control. If I had to be the leader of this country, I would try help everybody get along. but I know that cant happen very easily. I would want to make everyone happy also but I know that too is nearly impossible. There are many ideas that seem simple in my head but i know that they are very hard to accomplish.
ReplyDeleteI think that we are more cautious but after 911 we have hade the Boston Bombing, the isis and so on, so I think that we are. So I think that it is both safe and dangerous. I think that the first think that I would do if I was the leader I would first take care of the isis but that would be taking the internet out of Syria because the only reason we are afraid of hem is because we let them. and because they use the internet to sped the terror by live beheadings
ReplyDeleteI think the world is safer after 9/11 because if you look at all the things you have to go through and that type of stuff It has definitely improved over the last couple years. Technology has also improved to make it easy to figure out if they are good or bad people. If I was the leader of the world i would immediately try to wipe out all groups like isis to make this world safer for the people and me.
ReplyDeleteWhile there are many new factors in our world today, I think that the world is not safer since 9/11. With the growing terrorist threat in our world today, many new opportunities arise for terrorist groups to wreak havoc. Though, the growing security in our nation also has to play a roll in this matter. But still, more terrorist groups means more opportunities to strike other countries, and put us into a status of always looking out for terrorists, which it shouldn't have to be that way. I wouldn't really want to lead the nations of the world, but if I had to, my plan for world peace would mainly focus on hearing the problems and values of various countries, and then work out a way to show that most countries have the same values; and that we need to work together to secure a safe world. Additionally, I would try to get the leaders of the nations together to discuss ways to work together, and to drop the terrorist threat. In poorer countries, I would focus on obtaining a stable educational environment so that the kids could work on learning ways to keep our world safe- so that future generations can do the same.
ReplyDeleteI think the world is safer since 911, because we are more aware and more willing to help. Yes, there are still tragic things that happen, but other countries are willing to help fight the problem. If I could lead the countries I would just ask that people try to be nicer, but we all know that would never happen, so I would just ask that people would do at least three random acts of kindness, and pass it on.
ReplyDeleteI think that the world is no safer than it was before and that we are not perfectly safe with our security. Although, today we are more aware of what is going on in the world as far as terrorists around the world and we have found ways to stay informed about problems in the world. If I was the leader of the world I would start by banding as many countries together as possible and then start to resolve small conflicts between the countries who are willing to join their armies forces to take out all the evil and terror in the world. I sure that they would succeed but there is always a little bit of bad stuff that can slip through. So for the most part there would be world peace with all the countries who banded together in peace but, though there may be a few uncooperative countries will always be overpowered by good.
ReplyDeleteI say that the United states has benefitted and has gotten safer because of the past. Ever since 911 we have never forgotten, and we always keep improving our country every day. For example, earthquakes in California are always crucial. We now have buildings there that are designed to survive. Overall, every attack or threaten the United States gets, we always stay strong and improve after it.
ReplyDeleteI think that the world is just as dangerous as it was on September 11th. No matter how many safety pro cautions we take, we can't ever stop the criminal minds that create such horrific times in our history. This doesn't mean we can't try. I think that the pro cautions that we have taken have very much benefited our safety. Another reason we are safer is because we are stronger ; when the US is attacked we don't sit around and feel sorry for our selves, we fight. To active world peace, I would try to help kids and their families to a better environment. I would also put very strict restrictions on violent, graphic video games and images. Even though I can't stop what people think I would like to try to influence them for the better.
ReplyDeleteI think that the security measures have gotten better and made a safer economy for us, but that doesn't mean that the world is a safer place. Obviously the government is trying and almost always completing the mission of keeping our country safe. With that said, the world is just as dangerous as it was at 9/11. There are still terrorist groups that are hurting people, there are still countless threats to our national security, but since our country is making such an effort to fix this problem, we are almost always immune to what is actually going on in the outside world. If I were to make a plan for world peace, I would try to help people learn the difference between what is right and what is wrong. Obviously I can't just tell people what to think and how to act, but I can tell them what I believe then let them choose. I know this might not sound like I am "solving" world peace as a whole, but I am still giving people the freedom of choice. If people just make the wrong decisions, than sadly I think I might have to enforce some harsh consequences. This might not really be the answer to your question, but I am telling you how I would help the world make a change for the better of our planet and all the people living in it.
ReplyDeleteI think the security has gotten much better since the event. Things are probably much safer now, but that won't stop terrorists. We wouldn't want to start a war, but I think we should put a stop to these attacks by threatening them with our military. But if they still challenged us, we wouldn't start a war. I'd also be defensive with military, not offensive.
ReplyDeleteWe'd protect people but not attack them.
I think the security has gotten a lot safer since 9/11 because we have learned how the group had attacked us and we have fixed all the security problems and made sure they are not going to happen again. If I was a world leader I would take whatever steps possible to eliminate the terrorist groups in the world. I also think America could pull back with the military attacks after we stop the terrorist groups we have today. If its a big deal and is really concerning us then we should defend ourselves. There will still be terrorists in the world but maybe we just shouldn't get very involved in all these wars. I think we could just worry about ourselves for a while until something major happens when our help is needed.
ReplyDeleteI think the world is a lot more dangerous since 9/11 because a lot more people are paranoid about terrorism, security, and also other countries are hostile against the U.S some examples are Russia, China and Middle Eastern people. Also the Middle Eastern dislikes us because are support for Israel. My plan would be is to engage talks with countries were less friendly with and provide them with more medical supplies, plumbing, and education. In return the countries would help inssure the saftey and security of the American people by fighting poverty and security.
ReplyDeleteI think the world is become safer but also more dangerous with new palms are popped up. One way the wells come Sapor is that the World Trade Center that were made out of metal beans which are highly though. The freedom towers are now made out of concrete which is not Halley and the Pentagon has higher security and said all her natural history Museum and vice versa. The question of being a world peace later is very hard for me not answer. One I will try to create a better environment with lower stress level not sure exactly how do that but I will check. Next I will try I will go out and send troops to find at least some of the terrace in this world and those unfair rulers and see if there was a way I could arrest him and given the proper punishment they deserve question is very challenging for me to answer so I don't know those attack you could go to Ron or so on.
ReplyDeleteI think the world is safer because now we have examples of what happens when terrorism hits the world. I still think that the world is dangerous but I think it has gotten a lot safer since 9/11. My plan to achieve world peace would be to destroy the terrorist organizations and make Ukraine and Russia settle to an agreement.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't say we are safer, I would say we're more aware. Since 9/11, there has been devastations such as the Boston bombing and the shooting at Sandy Hook. The 9/11 attack caused huge devastation, but it made us a stronger country. We are now more aware about terrorism and the groups that do it. Security measures are big and sometimes an inconvenience, but it is required of us, to insure that something as huge and as terrible as 9/11 never happens again. My plan would follow one of the main philosophies of Martin Luther King Jr., "Darkness cannot drive out darkness, only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate, only love can do that." I would confront the conflicts in other countries with a rational and open mind. I would counter people fighting over power by finding a balance between the two. People need simple freedoms. They need to be lifted from repression of whatever it may be. It could be religion or because of war. Whatever the reason, people need to be heard.
ReplyDeleteThe world is definitely dangerous and it will always be, but since 9/11 airport security has improved a lot since 2001. We need to be safe on planes and metal detectors are probably most important because it's hard to sneak a knife through one. There will never be complete world peace-some people just don't like each other. But if I was in charge I would just try to not get into any wars and not upset anybody who we aren't exactly best friends with. And while there isn't wars going on, I would try to prepare and make as many allies as I could to try to get on the lighter side of other countries.
ReplyDeleteI think the world is safer because we now know to expect when a terrorist attack happens. We are more safe because we have better weapons, defenses, and have built better buildings to withstand natural disasters and threats. I would have all the countries work together and put all their differences aside and try solve and prevent the real problems the world is facing and stop fighting each other. So we can compromise and have everybody live in a safe environment.
ReplyDeleteI think since that time more americans and other countries have become more aware of terrorism. If you look back in history, people have always been killling other people.
ReplyDeleteTerrorism is our chapter of the history book. In all it really could go either way. If I was a world leader, I would bring the countries the situation would affect and disscuss the problem. If you give terrorists what thy want they most likely will want more
I think is a lot safer because that kind of woke us up and said you need to get better security and also are technology has gotten a lot better since then. If I were the leader of the world I would try to make a way we could get a lot closer as one group and try to get every one what the want within reason. By maybe having a big group meeting were every one gets together and and talks about problems they are having in their country and trying to solve them.
ReplyDeleteI think the world is a little safer than it was on September 11, just because since then we are more awear of what could happen, and there are not as many attacks on the U.S., and if I was the leader of the world I would help those in need and help end war and make peace for everyone.
ReplyDeleteI think the world is a little safer than it was on September 11, just because since then we are more awear of what could happen, and there are not as many attacks on the U.S., and if I was the leader of the world I would help those in need and help end war and make peace for everyone.
ReplyDeleteI think that the world is a lot more safer because we have better technology to track anything unusual and we are more braver now that we have experieced like 9/11 and now have made better solutions to either prevent something like 9/11 and have a less omaout of people to die.If I was a leader for the world I would try to see what I could do to make everyone think that everyone is safe and no one is going to be hurt or threatened. I would also take some of the other peoples idea and give an oration to everyone what we are goin to do, to not make them worry or feel like they need to do something. I would lastely take responsibility for everything that goes on like organizing an army or something like that for an important thing and I would plan ahead and make sure everything works out like planned and make sure that we don't have any errors. I would make the world feel like it is filled with peace and joy. :)
ReplyDeleteI think the world world is safer cause now we have raised our security and now others know we will always rise from stuff like this. I would make the world one big nation and allot everything evenly not as much country's but one big country.
ReplyDeleteI think the world is safer after 911, because we have come together as a stronger country. If i were to lead the world and try to gain world peace i would organize a conference to have opposing sides talk it out. No matter how ;long it took they would stay in the room,
ReplyDeleteI think by far the world is safer after 911 because we have upped our security and also it showed terrorists that no matter what, they can't tear apart our country. I know in airports the security has been severely increased but I think that we should still be more cautious. We, as a country are headed in the right direction but I think we still need to increase the security in our schools. Too many shootings have happened and there should have never been one in the first place. If I could lead the nations in an attempt to create peace I would not give any media attention to terrorist attacks and I think that one of the main reasons people do these attacks is to get attention.
ReplyDeleteI think the world is safer since 9-11 happened because it shows places we can improve on security. Which we did. The security in the USA is unbelievable, sure no one wants to wait in the airport but we are protecting ourselves.I think it was amazing how it brought the USA together, people try to push us down but we get right back up. If I could leads the nations of the world, I would start by shutting down the nuclear missal facilities. Then I would bring the leaders of the bigger countries together and would talk their problems out(compromise).
ReplyDelete
