The Class of 2015

Graduation is right around the corner.  After that, you are the new eighth graders.  While you may not realize it, being the most senior class in the school carries a tremendous responsibility.  Every class, from the 7th to the kindergarten is looking to you for direction and as role models.

Even though the school has been around for over a hundred years, the culture and personality of the school is determined first and foremost by the students.  And the group of students with the greatest amount of influence is the eighth grade.  You will set the tone for the entire 2013-2014 school year.

I believe in the idea that we our responsibility to make whatever it is we start better when we leave.  That should apply to everything we do in life.  If you happen to agree with me, your responsibilities as an eighth grader just increase.  You have made the school, teachers, and parents proud for the previous 8 years, so I know you are up to the challenge.

It is also time to have fun.  Your eighth grade year should be your best.  You have reached the top of the pile and it is time to enjoy the view.  You have worked hard to get here and should enjoy the privileges of being the most senior class.

What are you looking forward to the most as you enter eighth grade?  What tone do you want to set for the rest of the school and how will you do it?  What will you do, both individually and as a class, during the next year to make St. Joe’s better?

  1. In eighth grade, I am looking forward to the fun stuff that only eighth graders get to do, like dressing up for the fun run and the stations of the cross. I also just like having another whole year of fun. I think this should be a fun school, but focuses on academics in class. Next year, I want to help out wherever I can and leave this school better than when I entered it.

  3. In eight grade I am looking forward to being the oldest kids in the school and getting the privileges that only eight graders get like getting to wear something different on the Fun Run. I think the rest of this year will be hard but fun because of the test that are coming up but we will get to do picnic day. Next year I want to help St. Joes by helping in the Friendship Feast and in whatever else My class and I can do for St. Joes.

  4. I am really looking forward to all of the fun activities that we get to do from Hallisey (again), to maybe going to Washington, DC.I want to set the tone of excitement and I'm sure that I will be able to do that by winning the Hallisey tournament and having fun with all of our school events such as the fun run. Hopefully we will be able to model what St. Joes is all about, first of all its academics and second of all its athletics.

  5. I am looking forward to being the oldest in the school (except for the teachers). I think it will be fun to lead the school and mold the younger kids. I think our class will show the rest of the school how to thrive for greatness and set high standards for the younger students. I want to keep the school looking good and help keep the educational standards ant the same. I think it will be a great eighth grade year for the school.

  6. Next year, I can't wait to be the oldest in the school and do things and have privileges no one else has. For an example, we get to dress up for the Fun Run. Although most kids think school should be fun, it should also focus on academics. Not too serious, though, or else it wouldn't be a good experience. I plan to volunteer for the Italian Carnival or anything else I am able to do for school.

  7. In eighth grade, I am looking forward for being the oldest kids in school, ever since I was in Kindergarten I've been wanting to know what it was like being the 8th grade class. Also we have the special privileges like dressing up for the Fun Run, doing the Stations of the Cross, and going to retreats. I want to set a good example for the younger students. Next year, I want to help with the carnival for St. Joes so the younger kids will have fun.

  8. In eighth grade, I am looking forward to all the field trips we take, the retreat, and other things that each eighth grade class gets to experience. The tone I want to set this school is about learning to be better students, not having any drama, and all of us as eighth graders, to bond. I want to help out with the Friendship Feast and any other things to help make St Joes better than when I came here. I want to set a good example for the younger kinds, and I want to leave this school better than when I came.

  9. I am looking forward to the fun run because all the eighth graders dress up. Also I am excited for the Crowning of Mary and Stations of the Cross. Ever since Kindergarten I have always wanted to be the oldest in school. I want to set a tone like these eighth graders did this year. They all get along very well and I look up to them a lot. I really don't know how to do it, but I will try my hardest. As an individual I will sign up for Children of Peace and as a class we should all try to respect teachers and other students and teach younger kids to do better in school.

  10. as an eighth grader I'm looking forward to doing hallisey this year. Also I'm looking forward to be at the top and getting more privileges. The tone I want to set is that you can still have fun even if you have homework or classes and that you can meet new people. I think something we can all do to make St. Joes better is make an influence on the little kids and help them when they need help.

  11. As an eighth grader I am looking forward to the retreats, the field trips, the Crowning of Mary with the second graders, and the Stations of the Cross. I am also looking forward to dressing up for the Fun Run. Every year I wish I was in eighth grade so I could dress up, and I finally can. Another thing I am looking forward to is being on the top of the school and having privileges that the other students don't have. I want to set a hard- working, but fun tone, that all the students from kindergarten to seventh will enjoy. Individually I will set a good example to the younger students and be a good role model. As a class, we will always try to go on field trips that help the community and the people around us. I am so excited to become an eighth grader!

  12. There are a lot of things that I'm looking forward to in eighth grade, such as the May Crowning, Stations of the Cross, the Fun Run, field trips, retreats, as well as the fact of being the oldest ones in the school. I want to set a fun yet ambitious tone for the school. Kids should be happy and have fun at school, yet be serious and learn a lot. They should also be setting goals for themselves, mentally, physically, and socially. Goals help people thrive in life and be the best that they can be. To do this I am going to run for president in student council. I will show others how to be a good student, to be kind and caring towards others, and how to be a good leader. These are important characteristics that kids need in school. But if I don't get elected, then I would like to be a COP and help solve kids' conflicts. As a class we should all be good role-models to the little kids by being kind, respectful, obedient to the teachers, and by staying in dress code so that when kids see us in the halls they will see how to properly represent themselves with tucked-in shirts, belts, and wearing school colors. I am excited and ready to take on the responsibilities of eighth grade, to learn a lot, and to have a ton of fun!

  13. I can't wait to do Stations of the Cross. After watching it for so many years by other classes I can't wait to say that I am doing it.i want to set the tone that St.Joes works together as a unit. We need to show that we are one family and that we will stick together. We need to have more activities together from kindergarten all the way to 8th. I really want to be voted as a COP next year. It is important that since it is my last year that I leave knowing that the school is held together by the next generations too come.

  14. I'm looking forward to the Fun Run, and how the eighth graders always get to dress up.
The tone I want to set is happy and fun filled.
As an individual, I want to achieve better grades in science and maybe help other middle schoolers (especially the sixletts) study for their tests. Or become a COP. And I want to work more with other people and actually ask for help when I need it. :)

  15. There are a lot of things that I'm looking forward to in eighth grade, such as Stations of the Cross, the Fun Run, field trips, retreats, as well as being the oldest in the school. I want to set a fun and good tone for the school. Kids should be happy and have fun at school, yet be serious and learn a lot. They should also be setting goals for themselves. To do this I am going to be volunteering more than usually so that i can impact the younger kids and make this even more fun. As a class we should all be good role-models to the little kids by being kind, respectful, obedient to the teachers, and by staying in dress code so that when kids see us in the halls they will see how to represent themselves. I hope to leave St. Joes impacting the kids in a great way and leaving the school better than it has ever been.

  16. I am looking forward to making new friends in eighth grade. Since I came here I had always looked up to the eight graders and I couldn't wait till I was actually in eighth grade at St. Joe's. I have always looked forward to being one of the oldest kids at the school. I couldn't wait to participate in all the things that only the eighth graders got to do. I couldn't wait to go on retreats, do the fun run, and graduate. I am sad that I will not be able to participate in those things but I know there will be just as many fun things at my new school.

  17. I am excited yet also nervous for my last year at St.Joes. I know that since kindergarten I've always been slowly inching towards this year when all the fun stuff happens. Now all the other kids at school are slowly inching towards me and I'm already here. I'm on top! "Helloo.. down there little kindergartners!" After this year there won't be anything else for me to 'inch' towards at St.Joes *tear, sniffle* I am excited for the dunk tank, Hallisey, TVCS sports, and May Crowning and - maybe - COPS! I had so much fun doing it this year! My favorite part was meeting kids in he younger grades and working things out between friends. I am NOT looking forward to all the expected drama with friends though, and thinking of everything as my last - my last time doing the fun run as a student, my last year with all of my peers together before we go to different high schools, my last time with a speaking part at the school mass, my last year as a student *more tears* ! I want to make a lasting impression on St.Joes and I may not be able to do that in an elaborate way, but I will do it in my everyday action of helping the little kids and being respectful to the teachers.

  18. As an eighth grader I'm looking forward to being the oldest kids at the school. Everybody will look up to us as the "big kids." I'm really excited about all of the retreats and trips that we get to go on. The tone I want to set will make the whole school not want to let us go at the end of the year. The eighth graders are going to be the nicest and most helpful out of all of the school. I think as a class next year we should do lots of community service and include the little kids as we do it. We should raise lots of money for families who need it and for our school and have fun at the same time! As for myself... I'm going to try to NJHS again, get another physical fitness award, and just have a great time!

  19. I am going to North Junior High next year, so my plan is to make as many friends as I can and get to know my teachers. My goal is to stay ahead of my homework and tests from the start of school to the end of it, keeping a consistent high grade average. I will not be here next year, but I hope Saint Joes keeps going forward with all the great things the have done for me and my classmates. It will be a new experience and I will have a lot of fun at my new school.

  20. I think I am looking forward to being the top gun. Having kids listening to us instead of doing tings for the 8th graders. Also the fact that we will be high school the year after that is just awesome to think about. I am going to try to set a good example for the kids below our grade.I see a lot of work for our community next year. I really hope St Joe's continues to be a good school and I hope that our grade ca make it a ton better.

  21. In eight grade I am looking forward for the fun run, retreats, stations of the cross, and especially being the oldest in the school. I want to set a good tone for the school and show them that just because we have homework and stuff, you can still have fun. I will be a good influence on the younger kids and be nice to my teachers and also the younger students.

  23. I am looking forward to being the oldest class in the school, privileges to sit outside while we eat, being able to dress up for the fun run, and the retreats. I am going to set the tone that school comes first then fun and games. To do so I am going to work really hard and have fun while doing it. I am going to set good examples for the younger kids and I am going to help my class do the same thing as I am going to do.

  25. I am looking forward to being at the top of the pack, and not having any older kids there to give you a hard time. I am also looking forward to being the ones that set a really big example for the little kids. I want to show people that even though sports may be fun academics is the most important. I want to show people that if you are a good student ad do your best in school, you are able to be an athlete to. I am hoping to do some community service as a class, And as an individual. I also want to always be Christ like to other people. I am hoping to get very good grades. And be a good role model for younger kids.

  26. In my eight grade year I am looking forward to playing Hallisey because this year I didn't get to play and also it is mostly for the eight graders. I want to be a good example to the younger grades but also mess around and joke with them. My brother is an upcoming 6th grader so I am looking forward to that. Individually I will make sure my grades are good while doing basketball to get ready for BK. As a class I think helping out more will make it better for our last year at St. Joes.

  27. In eight grade I am looking forward to wing the oldest in the school. Also all the privileges and fun things we get to do. I want this next class year to set a fun tone for the rest of the school. I think as a class we will keep middle school night going which helps the middle school get closer and intouch with one another. I will hopefully influence someone to do something good at our school. I know that is very vivid but I don't know how to explain it. I am wanting to help more with the fund raisers we have at school.

  28. When I enter 8th grade I am most definitely looking forward to Halissey. I want to show that my class is responsible and we can do anything that we put our minds to. I am going to try and set a good example for the little kids by obeying all the teachers. My class is going to win Halissey and we come back with the trophy.

  29. When I become an eight grader I am looking forward to retreats, running for president, and just hanging out with my friends as the oldest students in the school. I want to set a serious tone towards academics while still having fun. This way I would accomplish this task is by showing people that just a little more effort can prove to not only increase grades but improve how you feel around other people. Next year I want to become president I will try to get more student rights such as your hair can grow an inch beyond the limit for boys. Another one is allowing girls to wear more shades of nail polish. Also I'm planning on some other secretive ideas for middle school night. In class I will try to do activities that will help us out in school and outside of school such as going to micron and learning how their technology works. That is what I will do to make St. Joe's a better place.
