On April 15, 2014 more than 300 teenage girls were abducted
from the secondary boarding school Chibok in Lagos, Nigeria. Boko Haram, and Islamic terrorist group has
claimed responsibility and is threatening to sell the girls in the market.
This is just another in a series of heinous acts committed
by Boko Haram. The organization has been
classified as a terrorist organization by the United States and there is a $7
million bounty on the group’s leader, Abubakar Shekau.
While Boko Haram is responsible for countless murders and
kidnapping, the size and atrocity of this act has captured the interest of
international groups and governments, including the United States and
China. As recently as Tuesday, the U.S.
State Department has pledged assistance with technical experts in intelligence,
investigation and hostage negotiations. China has offered to assist with satellite imaging
and other technical assistance.
Unfortunately, the Nigerian’s initial reluctance to accepting help has
given the terrorist organization a three week head start.
Boko Haram’s name is translated “Western education is sinful”.
They believe in pure translation of Sharia law which considers everything
Western as evil. The leader, Abubakar
Shekau recently released a video in which he says, “I abducted your girls. I
will sell them in the market, by Allah. There is a market for selling humans.
Allah says I should sell. He commands me
to sell. I will sell the women. I sell women.”
The Nigerian leaders, including President Jonathan Goodluck,
have not demonstrated the ability to effectively handled Boko Haram or recover
the abducted girls. What should be done
to recover these girls? What role should
the United States play in the recovery?
How do you think the international community should deal with groups
like Boko Haram? Lastly, please say a
prayer for the safe return and recovery of the girls and their families.
They should actually try to get them back and if they can't then ask for help then I'm sure America will help and probably would without them asking to.I think that the world should tell groups like that gods will isn't to abduct girls and sell them but probably wanted the girls to be educated.
ReplyDeleteMaybe search groups should be sent out, or the military should get some ideas on where they might be and how they will get all of the girls back. I'm sure if Nigeria isn't able to do that, they could ask United States to help. Our country may have more of an advantage since we have more weapons and protective gear that would be needed. Internationally, we should try all we can to spread awareness about groups like this. The more we are educated on this topic, the better the chance of ending groups like this.

Even though Nigeria says the don't need help, I think they really do. Internationally I think that we should spread the word to everyone and be cautious. I also think that we should put our militaries together and find the terrorists.
ReplyDeleteCountries who are concerned about these kidnapped girls should send groups of military soldiers to look for them and bring them back to their homes. The United States should send a few groups of soldiers into Nigeria to look for the girls. Our country is so smart and advanced that we should be able to find them. The world needs to spread the word about these terrorists, and find them so that they can be arrested.
ReplyDeleteI think that countries who offered to help Nigeria, including the United States and China, should send military soldiers out to find the 300 kidnapped girls, in addition to Nigeria sending their own military soldiers. I think that the United States should help as much as they can by sending the soldiers, but then take a step back and see if our approach is going well, and then assist Nigeria if they need more help in rescuing the girls. I think the international community should deal with groups like Boko Haram by sending in military to different parts of the countries that need help and find and arrest the terrorists.
ReplyDeleteI think Nigeria should accept the help and put a higher bounty on the leaders head. So high his own members might just kill him for the money. We should have a three Marine groups and an air squad to invade the terraces group. Make them eat C4!!! like seriously bombed them once they don't have hostages.
ReplyDeleteI think that Nigeria should let other countries help them because they might not have the top notch technology that other countries have to effectively locate the girls. I don't think that the U.S. should get physically involved by sending in troops, instead they should assist in the locating of the girls. I say this because the group Boko Haram is against western civilization, so if we get involved, there's a chance that they might change their mind from selling the girls to killing them. I think the world should put more time into exposing the whereabouts and weaknesses of groups like this, then striking before things can get messy.

ReplyDeleteI think that we should at least try to track tgem down. Once we know where they are we can help them.We should help them with the weapens part but not the rescue. We will give them the supplies and then be on our way. I don't think there is anything we can do about these groups except try to protect poeple from them.
ReplyDeleteThe problem with this whole Nigerian thing is accepting help is that it will show that Nigeria can't control their people, which for the most part they can't. Something else to consider is that the people of Nigeria are not very educated, and they don't know the best way to defend and prepare for these attacks/abductions. Another problem that appears is that there are lots of civil conflicts inside of the country. The best thing they could do is wait for the girls to be sold and put out search warrants for the girls. The best thing America could do is send Nigeria Drone technology to search for the girls. The international community should deploy 100 troops from each country and spread them out accost Nigeria to keep surveillance levels high. I hope the world can find and destroy these forces that do nothing but cause harm. May God be with the girls and with their family, let us hope that the leader of the terrorist group, Boko Haram make the right decision for his action and see the light of his wrong doing. Amen.
ReplyDeleteTo help recover these girls, Nigeria should accept any outside help it gets from other countries. I don't think the United States should send troops into Nigeria, but we should keep sending prayers and give Nigeria's president ideas on how to get the girls back. Nigeria should send their own troops and search groups to find the girls, and the United States should provide military weapons. The international community should spread awareness to other nations about this group and other groups like this. There should be more police force in areas that have problems with terrorists, and hopefully that should help stop some of this. Human trafficking is wrong and should be stopped at all costs.
ReplyDeleteNigeria needs to accept the help they receive. The United States should get involved by giving Nigeria access to our weapons if they need them to fight the kidnappers. We shouldn't actually fight the kidnappers. Also America should help track the girls. Now that they know who actually is the kidnapper, Nigeria needs to track him down and find the girls. The whole world needs to be looking out for these kidnappers and work as a team to prevent incidents like this in the future.

Also we could provide Nigeria with our more hi-tech and better guns. Internationally we need to all look for Boko Haram with all our miltaries put together. Also we need to raise awareness about terrorist groups like this one.
ReplyDeleteI think that to recover these girls, Nigeria needs to accept the help that the U.S and China are offering them. They do not want our help though, and us being there unwanted would only cause more trouble. If they are willing to accept our help I think we should try to help them by trying to reach some kind of agreement with the Boko Haram to bring the girls back safe. I think that we should deal with groups like Boko Haram by stopping the formation of the group in the first place. If people are educated enough to respect people’s rights, then the groups wouldn’t be formed in the first place.

Moving faster to where the groups like the Boko Haram are attacking can often mean the difference between life and death for some people. Also, having the correct means of dealing with the groups is pretty helpful.
My prayer for the girls: May God watch over the girls and protect them as they are found. May they recover from what has happened to them, and may their families be strong.
I think that instead of trying to find the girls by themselves they should ask foe some help from countries like us. I think we should bring our military in and search all of where Boko Haram is said to be and take him by surprise. Everyone needs to be tld about Boko Haram, so that more people can be on the lookout foe him.

They should investigate a ton to find what ever they can that could lead them to the girls. The US should bring a huge search crew a plan out a way to search any possible area where the girls could be under and over ground. I say that the international community hold all come together and show that the groups like the ones that kidnaped the girls have no chance against the rest of the world.

DeleteI think that in order to find the girls that were stolen, Nigeria needs to work with the US and China. I think that the U.S. should try to help but if Nigeria doesnt want U.S. and China the help them find the girls and we still go over and help anyways there could be arguments with the US and Nigeria. Nigeria really needs to let the US help them get the girls returned to their homes before they are sold. Internationally we should tell everyone about the situation and try as hard as we can to help Nigeria.

I think the United States should also try to negotiate with the group to give them something in return for the girls. I think we should deal with these groups by always knowing were they are and keeping them out of certain places.

We and China will need to help and cooperate with Nigeria to bring back the stolen girls. To deal with groups like Boko Haram, we should make people aware of what these groups are doing to people. Also, we should have more security or police around the areas that are constantly getting attacked.

I think we should go in and get the girls because the girls are innocent and we are a powerful country and try to help. I think we should deal with them by first talking to them and figuring something out and if that doesn't work have a back up plan for something that doesn't work.

I am sort of at a blank at what we should do without starting a war or riot. Maybe we should put them in prison or sentence them to death.(just an idea) We pray almost everyday for the girls and that they will make it home alive and healthy. Nigeria will need as much help as they can get and if that means accepting help from other countries then they should do it. This story shouldn't be about politics, it should be about communities joining together to save these girls.

If the girls are taken with no word I can understand why the people are getting upset. I think the community is doing the right thing to stand up and tell the government to take action instead of just seat around.
ReplyDeleteI think that the leaders should try to something more to try to find the missing students. The government can send out search parties of a greater quantity. Right now they are not trying as hard as they could. The United States could do a minimum amount of help so that they don't get mad at us for doing anything, but either way the U.S. is in a pickle. I say that they United States should just wait and see until the Nigerian government actually needs us. ReplyDeleteI think Nigeria is being pushed around by these terrorist groups. Someone needs to step in and show the dummies that cannot stop these attacks how to. I thinkwe deal with these people by increasing the military in the country. I f there are more army soldiers I doubt that they will act out in front of them. These people are just trying to get attention, if we leave it alone for a while eventually they will run out of fuel and stop these antics.
ReplyDeleteThe Nigerian government is not doing enough to recover the abducted girls. They need to take action and get troops out looking for them. I think that the United States should get involved and take over the investigation of the stolen girls. Nigeria is not doing enough. People, instead of being scared, need to make groups like Boko Haram fear them. Men shouldn't be able walk in and abduct over 300 girls without even a second thought. Something needs to be done that makes it so terrorist are frightened to do things like this. They need to be aware of the consquences if they are caught.
