If you had asked me to list the top 50 Hollywood role models, Ashton Kutcher would not have made the list. It is not that I had anything against him, I just would not have considered him. My only exposure to Ashton is through the movies he has been in, his enjoyment in punking people, and replacing Charlie Sheen on Two and a Half Men. All of that changed on August 13th.
While giving an acceptance speech at the Teen Choice Awards, Ashton completely changed my mind and my impression of him. Taking full advantage of the situation and his audience, he delivered one of the most inspirational and classy speeches I have had the privilege of hearing. He left his audience with three things:
1. What opportunity looks like
2. What is sexy
3. The difference between living a life and building one
After watching the video, what do you think about Ashton’s ideas? Why do you think he is sharing these ideas at this moment and with this audience? Do you have any role models? What is your definition of a role model?
I think his ideas are great. I think his idea of what opportunity looks like hard work. I think it is very important to be a hard worker to get place in life. I think that it is totally true that being sexy is being smart, thoughtful, and generous. I totally thing that you should build your life not live a life. I think he is sharing it in that moment because he has the right age group of teens that he is talking to. One of my role models is Derek Jeter not only because he is a great baseball player but he is also a great person. My definition of a role model is a person who is a great and caring person.
ReplyDeleteI think Ashton's ideas are phenomenal. He sends a great message, he is sharing personal stuff and and I think its important to have an aspect on life like he said. When he send being sexy I was ready for something like how you look, and then he said it is all about the brains and being generous and thoughtful. Not just being smart grade wise, but being smart in the modern world, and thinking before you do. Yes, I have many role models ad one of them is Ted Ligety because of his courage, will to take risks when needed, and being true plus he is one of the best ski racers in the world ;). A role model to me is someone who is always honest does whats right know matter what.
ReplyDeleteAshton's ideas are actually really good. His speech was great and his idea of opportunity was well said. Hard work is really important if you want to get places in life. Also, his definition of sexy is partly true. It is being smart, thoughtful, and generous, but the rest isn't crap. As for building life and not living life, I think you should do both. He is sharing this with his audience because it is just advice from him to them. Almost everyone these days gives an audience at award shows an inspirational speech. My role model is Hope Solo. She is a good athlete, but doesn't let fame get to her mind. My definition of a role model is someone who is honest, humble, caring, and really nice to everyone.
ReplyDeleteI think that Aston's ideas were well-thought and inspiring. He probably shared this speech at the Teen Choice Awards because most of the audience was teenagers. Aston's speech was directed towards teenagers who should build a prosperous life instead of living a destructive one. I don't really have a role model, but a role model is someone who inspires other people to do the right thing.

He was talking about his teen years as he was talking to the teens in the audience. I do not have any role models, but what I think a role model is someone that is always there for you. They are someone you can always trust and look up to.
ReplyDeleteI thought Ashtons ideas were not just what he was going to say ,but what he said that night was down from the heart and he meant what he said. Since his audience was mostly teens he found a good way to talk to the teens and tell them to live life to the fullest. He also talked about all the opportunities you have if you keep all that you do with jobs in a straight line. My role model is a kid on my football team that is a leader and an excellent football player with positive energy all the time. A role model is someone you can always count on to do the right thing no matter what the situation is.

ReplyDeleteChris (Ashton) really meant what he said on the stage that night and you could tell that he really, really, really wanted to get the message across to these teenagers who were about to start BUILDING their lives that you have to endure hard work to get anywhere in life. And that what you have on the inside is what matters more than anything else. I also agree with Emily Augustine though, the rest isn't just crap. My role model is my mom who works so hard to build a life for us all and she is amazing at tolerating my siblings and me. My mom is a role model because she does what is right and I always can fall on her.
ReplyDeleteI think Ashton told this speech not to make himself look good but he was being truthful. Ashton said a lot of good stuff in his speech, but one thing that stuck out to me more than the rest was one of the first things he said. He said to the audience full of screaming girls is “I feel like a fraud.” I love that, and the reason I do is the humility of it. He knows deep down he is just like everyone else in the world. He even tells us that Ashton is really his middle name. His real name is Chris and he was never called Ashton until he was 19, when his acting career took off. He also told us how he worked by washing dishes and at a grocery store. Work is life. You cant get through life without hard work... and being sexy. His definition of sexy is being smart, generous and thoughtful. Then he said something that continues this line of humility, “I've never had a job in my life that I was better than.” Wow, that is something coming from someone as rich and famous like him and it’s a great message for teenagers to hear. He said this now because there were teenagers that were at that age where you getting to that point of you life and you find out what your going to do.Yes, I do have a role model his name is Karch Kiraly. He has won an Olympic Gold medal in both indoor and outdoor (beach) volleyball. Karch has been an amazing hard worker since a young age. The thing that is crazy is that he didn't just win one indoor and one outdoor. He won two indoor and one outdoor. He is now the coach for the women's Olympic Volleyball Team for the 2016 Summer Olympics. Most people are probably saying they do the right thing but a role model is a person looked up to by others as an example.

I think he shared these ideas at the Teen Choice Awards because there were a lot of teenage girls there and he wanted to make a point that opportunity looks a lot like work because if you want to become successful, you have to work hard at it and take opportunities and risks. I think he was trying to tell people that being "sexy" isn't being the prettiest, the richest, and the having the best clothes like how society defines it. It's about being really smart, thoughtful, and generous. Not becoming like Miley Cyrus. When he was talking about building a life and not just living one is important because you can change how the world is and do so much more than just live in it. I think the three things that Ashton talked about all help each other because if you are sexy and know what a good opportunity looks like when one comes around, you can build a life and change how things are in this world. I don't really have a role model. My definition of a role model is someone you can look up to and who is a good example.
DeleteI think Ashton was being very truthful in his speech. He wanted to get the message across to everyone that if you work hard you will succeed. He tells us when you get an opportunity, take it and succeed with it. I also agree with Cecilia and Emily, sexy is being smart, thoughtful and generous but they rest isn't crap. In Ashton's speech, he meant what he said, he didn't do it for the cameras, he knows he is just like us. One of my role models is my friend, Alyssa Zeigler. I've known her for a really long time and I dance with her. She is role model to me because she is an amazing dancer but she doesn't have a big ego about it. A role model to me is someone who is nice, caring and loyal.
ReplyDeleteAshton Kutcher really spoke from his heart in his speech. He didn't do it just for the popularity. I think he really meant what he said about having to work hard in your life to become what your set your heart for. He wanted to tell everyone that when life gives you an opportunity, you should use it and make the best of it. You should accept the responsibilities of life. He wanted to point out that if you wait for things to come to you and don't make goals of success in life, you wont get very far in the world. I really liked how he explained what sexy really was. I think he wanted to tell all the teenagers listening in the audience and everywhere that to be sexy, you need to be smart, generous and thoughtful. He wanted people to know that he was just like any other person in the room. I loved how he told us how he never had a job in his life that he was better than. I think he wanted people to know that being famous didn't make him feel any more special than us. I also enjoyed how he told us one of the lessons he learned during his life. He told us not to live life but to build it. My role model is probably Carrie Underwood because she isn't self-centered about her fame. Also, she is an amazing singer. A role model is someone you look up to and hope to be more like them. They are kind and considerate.

He decided to give that speech because he wanted to be heard, and it was the perfect opportunity to give that lecture while he was on the spotlight with millions of people watching him. He believed that his thoughts and ideas had to be addressed, so that's what he did. I have many role models, a whole list of them. Whether it's religious, athletic, or just in life, there are so many different people that I could share, but it would take awhile. My definition of a role model is someone who represents kind and fair behavior, whether in private or in public. Someone who is not afraid to be themselves, and who stick up for what they believe in. A role model is someone who you dream to be in life, because they have those charachteristics that wish you had. But at the same time, they don't make themselves look more important than you. You are your own person, and it's okay to want to improve on some different traits. But you need to remember that you need to be yourself, and the purpose of having a role model is to look up to them and be a good person like they are.
ReplyDeleteI think that Ashton is very brave to go up on a stage and admit things and say things that he believes. He is totally 100% correct about being sexy is actually being smart. Not buying products to make you look "sexier". And he is also correct that everything around us was made by people no smarter than us. I have two role models and they are my parents. They are always being such great parents, people, citizens, and always being so kind. They are always donating to charities and other funding associations, they are always being so kind and always trying to help out, and they always want to be supportive to everyone. To me, that is the definition of a role model. Not to be someone that only cares about himself or herself, but to be a steward of the earth and help others, especially those who are in need. And that is a role model, to me.
ReplyDeleteChris had some really inspirational ideas. He is sharing those ideas at that moment because he wanted to tell the young teens of America to be the best they can be. My role model is my dad because he is always working hard, but most of all he is always happy. He is never sad. He also makes everyone smile and laugh. My definition of "role model" is someone that you look up to, someone you adore, and not just someone that is famous but someone who would be there in the time of need of you and/or other people. For example I think that my dad is a great role model and he meets my definition of "role model".
ReplyDeleteI think that his ideas are like life lessons. In his speech, I believe that he was telling us how we could be successful in life. It is our choice to be successful; he was just giving us the guidelines. We need to take an opportunity when we get one, and work hard when we do. Ashton kept saying to be smart, which means to get a good education so you can make good decisions, to make the world a better place, and make a good life for ourselves. Ashton is sharing his ideas with a young audience to inspire them to make a difference in the world. Stevie Wonder is my role model, because although he has had so many difficulties in his life, he pushed through them. He strived for what he wanted to do, and he took an opportunity when he got one. My definition of a role model is someone who is a good and positive example in everything they do and say. A role model should encourage others to try their best. They do what is best for others and not just for themselves.

He had the right audience and he reached everyone in many different ways. He really sent the right messages to teens. He spoke when he did because he had everyone's attention and the people would listen. One of my role models is my dad. He has done well in his his life and has still decided to make the right choices in life. He really defines my definition of a good role model. A good role model to me is someone who can be successful in life and still make good decisions and stay responsible, generous, caring, and true to them self.
ReplyDeleteAfter watching this video, I think that Ashton's ideas are true and that we should take them into thought. He is right about what opportunity looks like and how being "sexy" isn't about buying things to fit in or to be in the popular group. He talked about that being "sexy" is being smart and thoughtful. To me that is a great definition of that word. To me, he is right about those three things that he talked about during his speech. I think that Ashton shared his ideas at that moment with that audience because it was at the Teen Choice Awards and that mostly teens were watching. I think he shared his ideas at that moment with those people because he knew what it was like to be a teen when you are faced with hard decisions and every decision counts toward what path you are going to go on in your life. I have many role models. The two that stick out in my mind though are my mom and dad. They are always thoughtful and caring and doing the best for my brother and sister and me. My definition of a role model is what I just described: caring, considerate, and doing the best for others and not thinking of yourself. I think that Ashton's speech changed many perspectives of teens.
ReplyDeleteAfter watching this video I thought that his ideas were all right. Opportunity is working hard in order to do what you want. And that being sexy isn't just the looks, it's the thoughtfulness and the generosity behind the person. And that you don't have to be "sexy", by the looks, to fit in to the popular people's group. And that you need to build your life so that you can make the way you want, and not live the life that others have made for you. I think that he said his speech in front of the audience that he did because it's the age that kids are getting opportunities and they are becoming "sexy". And these kids are just beginning to build the life that they want to live. My role model is Chase Headly, a professional baseball player for the Padres is my role model because he is humble,nice, and gives back to his community. My definition of a role model is someone who people look up to, a nice and humble human being, and someone who cares bout their community.

I think he is sharing his ideas now because everyone has to think they are better than everyone else, and look better and talk cool, but that all doesn't matter what matters is if your nice to someone. Chris's speech actually also changed my point of view of him because i always thought he was this famous actress that didn't really care, but now I see him as a star who cares and wants to make a difference.

I also belive that he was sharing this because it's the "TEEN" Choice Awards and that is like the age group he was talking about. Ashton has great ideas and he does have brain not just good looks and great acting skills. A role model is someone who can show you the right way and help you make tough decions. Someone you look up to like Ashton because of this speech I think people will take him more seriously. He is a great person to look up to.

I think that because the audience was still young he told them that so that if they become famous then they won't go crazy. My role model is Bruce lee. I think that he is sharing these ideas because this is a teen audience and they have a lot of life to live. They also need ideas to live their lives in a peaceful and respectful manner. I think he is sharing these ideas right now because the best place to get the word out to kids is a the kids choice awards. Also I think he did it now because he saw it was a problem in our country right now. Some of my role models are my mom and my dad because they go through so much to give me the life I have. Some others role models I have are my two volleyball couches Taylor and Alyssa, they are my role models because when I get upset because I keep doing something wrong they push me to keep trying and tell me that I will get it. My last role models are Michael Jordan and Michael Jackson because they taught me to never give up and follow your dreams. I had never heard of Ashton but one speech really made him a role model. I think he is sharing at this moment because millions of people are listening and he has fans in the crowd that will likely pass on the news. It was also a serious time not when anyone would take him half-heartedly. I don't have a lot of role models I could identify, not that im saying im perfect but I just don't look at other people and say I want to be like him/her. This is because later in life they will do something wrong and I want to save myself the disappointment, like Armstrong. I think a role model is someone that has positive assets that you would like to acquire. No one is perfect so your role models are going to have ups and downs. In my personal life I think someone, if I ever find someone that would be a role model is someone who will be positive about things, make the most of life and make it for others.
ReplyDeleteI feel like Chris is a very down to earth kind of guy he doesn't have all the fancy stuff and I think that his speech was very good. His first part of his speech of about opportunity looks like hard work is amazing, he's basically saying that jobs and well paying jobs don't just happen but that it comes trough hard work and not very many speeches about this kind of stuff don't have that detail. his definition of being sexy is defiantly not one that I have heard of but know that I have heard it I see that he is right and that have the good looks is nice but a good brain is better than good looks, think about it do you want a good looking wife that cant do anything and you are always worrying about money or do u want an intelligent wife that can help with the bills. his ideas on building a life is phenomenal saying not just going b the book day by day and having a life full of boredom how about having that one hour of excitement and fun that you will remember for the rest of your life so when you look back on the fun times you'll remember a ton instead of a few.

I think he is sharing this with the audience because he wants people to understand what he has done in life. Also he wants to be inspirational because the audience is teens. Some of my role models are Michael jordan because he taught me that I should never give up on my dreams. Another one of my role models is my basketball coach, Coach Paul. He pushes me to become the best basketball player I can be. He always tells us "I don't care if you miss a shot I care if you learn from a mistake on how you missed the shot." I always try to be the best I can be to make him proud. A role model is someone who speaks out and tries to encourage people young and old, someone who spreads love not hate.

He talks about how "sexy" isnt just being popular, having cool clothes. Being "sexy" is being genourous and thoughtful. my video kept freezing so I couldnt finish so I will tell you what I think about living life and building one. Living life is going day by day and relising that you will make mistakes you will have consequev]nses. It is also learning to except things the way they are and learning to love the people around you. also it is having fun with life you only get one chance to make it great so dont make it perfect. Building life is trying to build a perfict little life and not understanding you will make mistakes. trying to be perfect act perfect and live perfect. I dont have really one role modle. a ood role modle is someone who is kind and genourous.

I liked how he didnt think sexy was the way that you look but it was the way that you are such as generous, smart, and caring. I think that Ashton is sharing this with the audience because he wants people to know what kind of peson he is. Ashton seems like a great role model and someone to look up to. Yes, i have many role models in my life but one is my cousin Tom because he is smart and always kind. Tom sets a good example for me because he does very well in school and i love being with him. A role model to me is someone i can look up to and who is trustworthy and caring of others. Arole model is someone who sets a good example.:)

I think that he was chosen because he was know to make funny movies and TV shows and people would not take him seriously but he showed the crowd and America that even a famous person can make an example to be good and there not always doing trashy thing to look cool. One of my role models in life is Mark Crilly who is my favorite artist because he just never gave up and had persistance at what he love to do which was to draw.another role model is Mr. Grant because he always tries his best to work hard and he told me that you have to take responsibility for what you do and how you do it and also to work your best. A role model to me is someone who is an inspiration to try harder and work your best and not someone who could lead you to wrong doing.

ReplyDeleteI think Ashton has the right ideas. We should build a life, not just live one already made up by other people. And, yeah. Smart is sexy. But opportunity doesn't always look like work, at least I don't think so. Opportunity can be something simple, like helping out. You could help someone out, then that person gradually builds your social image up, and you could somehow get famous by that. It's the butterfly effect. I think Ashton is sharing his ideas with these people, who are teenagers, because he wants them to be successful in life. My idea of a role model is someone who is a good person, someone caring, loving, and likes to help out. My role model is my mom. She is kind, loving, and all-in-all a good person.
