Welcome back to school.
Even though you have not been in class, I hope you have been paying
attention to some sort of news. This
summer has had its fair share of intriguing stories. Below are a few from various aspects of
society.
Celebrity news
The big celebrity news had to be the birth of Prince George
Alexander Louis. Prince George was born
on th to Prince William and Kate Middleton. The news was filled with every detail of the baby’s
coming arrival and all the events that have happened since his birth.
July 24
Egypt is a mess. It
has been a mess for more than 2 years.
In 2011 the people protested to force the leader out of office. After a successful overthrow, Egypt conducted
its first democratic elections in decades.
While not everyone was pleased with Mohamed Morsi’s election to lead
Egypt, it did seem as though Egypt was moving in a democratic direction. Just over a year later, the people have taken
to the streets again to force Morsi out of office. The political unrest has resulted in
approximately 900 deaths in the past four days as the government of Egypt tries
to establish some stability.
Uneven playing field
The biggest sports story has to be the ongoing steroids
suspension in major league baseball.
Around a dozen players were suspended a couple of weeks ago for using
illegal performance enhancing drugs.
Every player has accepted the suspension without appeal, except
one. Alex Rodriguez is continuing to
fight the charges against him. To me the
entire story is ridiculous. Throw them
all out of the game for cheating and lying.
We need better role models in society and in sports. I could also mention the ongoing saga of
Johnny Manziel, but I get nauseous every time I see another story about him…
Close to home
Idaho is on fire.
After a dry winter and a hot summer, the conditions are perfect to have
an incredible fireth and has been spreading even since. More than 2,300 residences of Sun Valley and
Hailey have been evacuated.
season. Over the past
few days the Sun Valley area has gained the nation’s attention as over 700
firefighters are going to battle with the fire which has destroyed 100,916
acres to date. The fire started by lightning
on August 7
Do you pay attention to the news? Why or why not? Which types of stories interest you? What do you think was the biggest story of
the summer?

I sort of pay attention to the news, it just depends on what it is. I like watching crime stuff on the news, because it just interests me and I like finding out what happens. The biggest story of the summer I think was the Amber Alert or the fires.
ReplyDeleteI only pay attention to the to the news if there has been a very serious incident. I may also pay attention to the news if it was my homework. In other cases I might watch it in the mourning when I'm eating breakfast. I'm interested in the sports stories mostly. I think the biggest story was when there was the "Super Moon".
ReplyDeleteI only give my time too the news if dad is watching it. Because I have better things to do like meet with friends or take my cousin to the mall. the interesting stories are the ones that involve death or tragedy. Honestly cant chooes
ReplyDeleteI watch the news all the time with my dad. I mostly watch Fox News. The stories that interest me the most are the stories about politics. I love politics, so that is why. The most interesting one this summer was probably the Amber Alert story because you were always on the edge of your seat listening to what kind of progress they were making on rescuing Hannah. I pay attention to the news because I like hearing what is going on around the world.
ReplyDeleteI do pay attention to the news most of the time. I sometimes watch KBOI news or read the newspaper, but I mostly listen to the radio with my dad. I like to learn about what is going on around the world like all the forest fires that have been happening on the west coast or the droughts. I think the most interesting story this summer was probably the Amber Alert story about Hannah being kidnapped because there were always updates about the search and it was interesting to hear what would happen to her. I also liked to hear about Duchess Kate and Prince Williams' new baby. I like the news and think it is very interesting!
ReplyDeleteEvery night before I go to sleep I always watch the news I believe it's my responsibility as an American to follow up on not only local but global news. One of the biggest stories of the summer I feel is the chemical attack in Serra that poses as a threat to whole world and I hope there will be check ups on the story.....
ReplyDeleteYes, I do give my attention to the news. I believe it's important to understand what is happening in the world. George Alexander Louis being born intrigues me the most. One reason is a new prince is born into the world and another reason is I am very interested about the royal family, and I love England. There were a lot of big stories that happened in the summer, some that are joyful and some that are bad. But, I would say that Prince George's birth was the biggest story because that wonderful day will be going down into history, and we all have the satisfaction of being here to witness that.
ReplyDeleteYes i do pay attention to the news mostly because its important and crucial to understand what is going on in society. I personally like to watch crime stuff and seriouse incedants. The biggest news story of the summer was the amber alert because an interesting story but also because it was intense. I was on the edge of my seat when i would listen about what was going on an most likely everyone elde was too.
ReplyDeleteI do pay attention to the news. I mostly have my grandma tell me what's happening because I'm very busy with school work or horses. Also because she always watches the news. I love watching car accidents, crime seens or the big news like amber alert! There are somedays where I will like to watch good stories that are happening. I think the biggest story was for Kate Middleton and Primce William to have their baby!!
ReplyDeleteI sometimes pay attention to the news because I really like the crime and mysteries. The stories that really interest me are the crime and like csi cases. I think the biggest sorry was the fires or the birth of the prince.
ReplyDeleteI pay attention to the news when a big story is on but other than that not as much. The crime and suspenseful news stories are the ones I like the best. They make you sit on the edge of your seat and hope everything will turn out ok. I think the amber alert was the biggest story of the news this summer. Every time there was something on the news about her I would watch it. While I would watch it, it made me sit in the edge of my seat.
ReplyDeleteI usually only pay attention to the news when something big (like this fire or a big storm/hurricane) is being talked about. Other than that, I don't watch it. The big stuff usually effects my life, so I pay more attention to that. Smaller stuff like weather is for my parents. ;) My favorite stuff to hear on the news are the good stories where, say, someone discovers the cure to cancer or similar. The biggest story this summer was- I actually don't know! Not in Idaho, anyways. I barely watched the news this summer, but when I was in Florida, a tropical storm passed over us. That I paid attention to, mostly because it terrified me (we had lots of tornado warnings).
ReplyDeleteI don't really pay too much attention to the news unless something big has happened. I don't really make an effort to watch the news. My mom and dad sometimes watch the news but I am not really interested.
ReplyDeleteSports stories really interest me especially when someone breaks a record, scores a really high score or when I know the athlete like Nick Symmonds.
I think the biggest story of this summer in Idaho was when Hannah Anderson was kidnapped because he brought her to Idaho and everybody knew about it and was talking about it. Everyone near Cascade was looking for her. When we were on a run, my mom and I saw the National Guard flying up to Cascade to help. I was really glad when she was found and brought home safely.
I don't pay attention to the news unless something really big happens. my dad watches the news almost every night but I don't find it super interesting. Happy and cute stories interest me the most because I think the world could use a little more happiness. I think that the biggest news this summer was the ruling on Treyvon Martin's case. Also the birth of a new royal family member Prince George!!
ReplyDeleteI do pay attention to some news. But I prefer to watch sport stories on the news. I pay attention to sports news because I really enjoy sports. I think the biggest story of the summer was all of the baseball players that took illegal performance enhancing drugs.
ReplyDeleteI do pay attention to the news simply because I find it interesting. I like the sports stories because I love sorts and i am really interested in what happens in the sort world. I think that the a-rod story is the largest because he is a or was a good baseball player and he cheated the system.
ReplyDeleteI sometimes pay attention to the news but only if there is something big going on. I like crime and mystery stories because it makes you wonder who did it. I think the biggest story on the news was Hannah Anderson or whatever her name was. Every time her story would come on I would be on the edge of my seat.
ReplyDeleteI pay attention to the news, because I want to stay caught up in what is happening around the world, in the United States, Idaho, or even just in my community. The stories that interest me are stories that involve natural disasters, and important leaders. I think that the biggest story of the summer is the unrest in Egypt. I think it is terrible the amount of people dying there.
ReplyDeleteI pay attention to the news because I think it is exciting and I am interested in what goes on in the world. I like sport news because it keeps me watching and is very interesting. I think that the biggest story was the Hannah Anderson because she was kidnapped and then there was a huge search and people were helping, and it was big.
ReplyDeleteI don't regularly pay any attention to the news. My exceptions are big things that catch the attention of the entire nation, such as the Boston bombing or a presidential election. Most of the news that I see on TV doesn't affect me, so I don't really care. I didn't watch the news at all this summer because my grandparents don't have TV, so I have no stories to share.
ReplyDeleteBrady - I do pay attention to the news because I like to know whats going on in the world and how it will effect us. The stories that have a conflict and somebody rises up to solve it interest me the most. I think the crisis in Egypt is the most important because it has to do with world peace. They are also our allies and we depend on them. It hurts the U.S. when the become unstable
ReplyDeleteI do not watch the news because im too busy watching my brothers all summer. Besides if anything big happens my mom will tell me about that stuff and all. Also the news is pretty boring to me i dont find much interesting in it. I was surprised you didnt include Treyvon in here. I think that was the biggest. I dont get how the guy who shot treyvon did not get charged.
ReplyDeleteI pay attention to the news if there is a big crime or something on like that because I like those types of stories. I don't like other news stories if it does not have to anything to do with crime or a prince being born. They simply do not interest me. I think the biggest story this year was the Amber Alert or the fires.
ReplyDeletei pay attention sometime, but i sometimes only see parts of stories. i like wathing it sometimes if there is a crime or like the birth of PRINCE GEORGE and stuff like that. i think the biggest story was the fires because they are very close and people are being evacuated.
ReplyDeleteThe only time i really pay attention is in the morning whn i am getting ready for school, or when i really have nothing else to do. i kind of like watching the news but only when they are talking about the fires or a crime story or something like the little prince being born. i think the biggest story of the summer was when the guy lit the house on fire in california, killing his wife and step-son, then made a mad dash for cascade to hide out.
ReplyDeleteI pay attention to the news only when there is a crime scene or mystery on the news. I like the crime stories because it always keeps me in suspense. I like knowing about who did what and why. I think the biggest news story this summer was definitely the Hannah Anderson amber alert. I also think the massive fires here where a big deal
ReplyDeleteI dont really pay attention to the news unless you count ESPN. I think the biggest story this summer was the Alex Rodriguez and Ryan Braun cause sports are close to my life and it kind of pulls my attention to something with big names. Another huge story was the Hannah Anderson amber alert. Just cause that stuff is serious and people could have been seriously injured.
ReplyDeleteI sometimes pay attention to the news but not a great deal. I don't really like the news, because mainly the news is about bad things in the world, its usually not about the good things in the world so I don't watch it. Stories that interest me are like tornadoes and hurricanes because I like how the storms look like on camera. I didn't watch the news over the summer because my grand ma doesn't have TV. I know a story that was on the Mexican news because my dad told me about when I was in mexico. I was actually there when this happened. In Guadalajara it rained really hard one night and my cousins and I were in a restaurant and we were stuck in the restaurant. After 3 hours we decided to drive to my aunt's house. All the streets were flooded and we had to cross a river in the middle of the street to get there. Some cars were completely flooded and people had to stand on the top their cars to not drown. We took the risk and crossed the river, in the middle of the river the car stopped and it almost turned off, but we pressed the gas and the car finally got out. That night 150 trees fell, and these weren't small trees they were huge! Everything turned out okay and we were safe.
ReplyDeletewhen i pay attention to the news is when i notice some fishy activity and i want to know what happened or what is going on. another time that i pay attention to the new is when i walk into my dads office and he has the news on and their is an interesting story on.
ReplyDeleteI pay attention to the news a lot because I like to know what happens in the world. I feel weird if I am uninformed of the current events of like Sierra is one of them or when the royal baby was born. I things that are more about different countries are very funny to learn about. I like being able to just flip on the TV and see or go to the internet and check out what is happening. I think that the biggest story of the summer was about all the fires in Idaho.
ReplyDeleteI pay attention to the news a lot because I like to know what happens in the world. I like the news alot because it is so interesting. I think the crisis in Egypt is the most important because it has to do with world peace. It was so huge and it is history. I think the baby was big but not as big as the fires.
ReplyDeleteI do not really pay attention to the news because there are other things I am occasionally doing but when I am not doing anything i watch the news. I was busy the whole summer so I did not get to the news at all. The stories that do get my attention are the ones that go to court. I guess those are just exciting to me. I do not have any exciting stories from the news but I heard there were some this summer.

ReplyDeleteI sometimes pay attention to the news but I am usually doing other things or I'm not home when its on. I didn't really watch the news this summer because I was doing other things. I really don't try to watch the news because I have no interest in some of the stories they talk about.
ReplyDeleteThe stories that interest me the most would be sports stories because I enjoy listening about what is happening in the world of sports. I didn't watch the news much this summer so I didn't really hear any exciting stories on the news. But I heard there were some exciting stories over the summer.
i sometimes pay attention to the news. but not most of the time. i will if there is something really interesting or my parents are watching. i definitely think the most interesting story was about the girl that got kidnapped. and the man that kidnapped her came to Idaho. especially because it happened here.
ReplyDeletei sometimes pay attention to the news if it is interesting. the types of stories that interests me are the ones about sports or a forest fire things like that mostly sports. the biggest story this summer was on how many forest fires there weer i could barley breathe.
ReplyDeleteI dont really ever pay attention to the news very offen. I dont really like all the sad stories on the news. The stories that interest me are the ones about fires. The most interesting story was the one about the girl who got kidnapped and taken to idaho. I was really scared when that happened because the kidnapper was so close.
ReplyDeleteI only really pay attention to the news when it applies to me and my way of life because if the news could harm me in anyway the i would want to know about it. I am interested in story of harm and heart break because if that is something i can affect then i will do everything in my power to help. I think the biggest story of the summer was the royal baby boy being born.
