November 11 is Veteran’s Day in the United States. It is a day to remember the men and women who have dedicated their lives to protecting the American way of life. Through the years these individuals have put their safety and well-being in jeopardy in the name of freedom, liberty, and justice. We owe all former and current members of our armed services a great deal of gratitude.
Whether or not you agree with the involvement of our military around the world, the support of our troops is necessary. It is not the soldier who decides where to go, they take orders. They go where they are needed and where they are asked to go. It is a difficult life. In addition to risking their life, they are often separated from their families for months on end. They give up the comforts of Saturday afternoon football games, microwave popcorn, and a nice fireplace in exchange for tents in the middle of the desert.
It is fitting we dedicate a day during the year to remember those brave men and women who truly understand what it means to be called to duty.
What are your thoughts on Veteran’s Day? What ways can you personally honor our veterans and current military members? What do you think life would be like in the armed services today?
the ultimate star trekkie/nissa- I think that Veteran's Day is a great way to honor the servicewomen and men who died for our country. I think that we can personally honor veterans and military members by visiting them, sending them cards, and care packages. Also, we can visit veteran's graves and put flowers there, etc. Life in the army now would be really hard, tough, and demanding in all aspects. I mean, you'd see awful things and before you even get into the field, there's a lot of years of training and things. I've heard of post-traumatic-stress-disorder that many soldiers get after war, missions, etc. It's very brave and daring to join the army. I think that overall, it's great that we honor them today.
ReplyDeleteCatie-My thoughts on Veteran's Day are that we should celebrate it more and recognize the soldiers who died and are fighting for us. I think some ways to honor veterans are to visit them and pay attention to them. We should thank them and show them that we truly care. I think life in the armed services would be very hard and sad. Just knowing that you might die today and that you might never see your family and friends ever again is heartbreaking. But I think that dying in the place of someone you love is a good way to go.
ReplyDeleteRyan- Veterans day to me is a time to think of the fallen ones from war.Veterans day can be happy or it can be a sad day. It all depends on how you look at.I think that we can honor or fellow Veterans by one praying or having at moment of silence..You could go visit a family members grave ,who was in war, and lay flowers or some of their favorite things at he grave.To me what it would be to go into the army or marine,it would be challengeing.It wouldn't be a walk in the park.I would be worried that ill never see my parents and family.If i was in the army or marines, their would be something that would always make me feel good. That i'm severing my country to save millions.
ReplyDeleteDillon, My thouhgts on Verteran's Day are that it is a great time to remember all of the men and women that have died for our country. I pray every night for the men and women that are surving our country like my uncle. I think that life in the military would be hard because you get about 5 hours of sleep a day and the work that you do is very hard.
ReplyDeleteGabi- I thik we should have more than just one day to thank and honor the people who put there lifes on the line for us every day. This say really means alot to me and my family,my dad uncles grandpa and greatgraparents are all veterans. Veterns day is a day that should never not be celebrated. I love that I live in a free country and because of these men and women who left there families I can. I know that I could personally honor these people by praying for them, putting our flag out, and like we did in class sending cards and gifts to them. Life in the the military would be so hard. Thinking about there families that they left behind, putting their life on the line everyday, little to mb no sleep, and seeing the most horrific thing you could imagine. I am so grateful for all of our veterens.

ReplyDeleteI think Veterans Day is a great holiday.Veterans do so much for us so at the least we owe them a holiday. During Veterans Day we should help and thank an elderly veterans by raking their leaves or somthing like that. We could also send cards to veterans over in Iraq or Afghanistan to say that we miss them and we're praying for them. These things are so simple yet they would mean a lot to veterans. I think serving in the military would be scary. When you wake up in the morning you have the threat of being killed,but I guess if you've been living there for 3 years you would get used to it. We owe veterans a lot.
Natalia- I think that veterans day is an awsome day. We should always remember the people who are serving, those who have died for us, and those who have served. My uncle, grandpa, and other family members of mine have served and i am so thankful they did. I pray for those who are serving at night and remember what they are doing and have done for us. I think serving would be very hard for me because knowing i could die any minute is very scary.Thinking about those you have left at home that might never see you again would be very hard and sad to think about. I also think it would be good to serve you would feel like you did a great thing for country.
ReplyDeleteSena- I think we should celebrate Veterans Day as a bigger holiday. Like Christmas. After all they are all fighting for us even though we don't know them. I think we should honor them in our schools. I could write a letter to the Veterans telling them how thankful I am for them and that we are thinking of them. We should pray for them constantly and hope they stay safe. Without our armed forces we would be in a lot of trouble and probably not be safe. Without any armed forces we would be a much more peaceful world. Veterans is a great day for the US!

I think it is the perfect way to remember those who have died for our country and those who are still serving. There are so many ways I can think of to show support and honor to the people who serve our nation. I pray for them, send care packages, and write to them. I think one way of showing honor is by saying the pledge and singing the national anthem. I think day to day in the armed forces would be nerve wracking and scary. I think it would be a lot of hard work and effort to stay in top shape and ready to go. I would be anxious, but once I got into combat I would know that I had to show courage. I think most of the time it is a lot of training and learning. I think that Veteran's Day is the perfect way to show our appreciation.

Jacob- I love Veterans Day. It is great that we have a whole day for veterans. I think we can honor our veterans and military personnel by praying for them. We can pray for the veterans that they are not hurt by any injuries. And the military personnel that they are safe. I think it would be scary in the military right now. I would always be thinking that I could die at any minute
ReplyDeleteEmma- My thoughts on veterans day are very positive. I love that we are able to support and honor those fighting for our nations freedom because they defiantly deserve every minute of it. Last year my school went to sing for some of the veterans and we were also pen-pals with them. This was great and really fascinating to see what life was like in war. I think everyone should do something like this at least once a year to make them feel special. I think that it would be very sad to leave everything behind including your family and friends to leave to war, but also I think I would feel appreciated and feel like i did something good for my country.

Veterans day is very important to me because my grandpa and grandma own the war hawk air museum because of this I have got to know a lot of wonderfully veterans like one of my very close ones Elmo, I have known him a very long time and always takes time to talk to me I love him a lot. Veterans day reminds people everywhere that people are fighting for us all the time these people are brave and really love there country they fight for huge things like rights and government and even the small things like our McDonalds . It would be terrifying to be out there knowing what could happen and Its amazing how much we need them the keep us safe and even though the dont know us they love us enough to die for us and that's why we have veterans day .......
ReplyDeleteTaylor- I think Veterans Day is an amazing day that should be celebrated in a bigger way. I think there should be a whole month for veterans to recognize all they have done for us. I don't think one day where we talk about it for five minutes in one class is enough. I try to remember to say a prayer every once in a while for our veterans. I think of veterans when I say the Pledge of Allegiance in the morning and I think about all they have done for America. I think life in the armed forces would be really scary. But I would try to think that I am defending my country and all that good stuff. It might make me feel better.

And i think that everyone should take the day of and pray for all those that they have lost. When i say the Pledge of Allegiance it reminds me of all the veterans and Veterans Day. To honor the veterans i think we should do what i said earlier. and we should go to the homes that house the veterans that fought in the wars that are still alive and spend time with them and make them feel accompanied. i cant even imagine what it would be like to be in the armed services today.

ReplyDeleteMatea(tea)- I am happy that we have Veterans Day. If we didn't have this day to remeber our soilders they would feel like they did it for nothing. They risked their lives out there for our country.Wow! That is brave. they probably feel very proud of themselves for doing that.I think that we should pray for all the people in the military right now. Say the Pladge of Alligence with great respect. If i was in the armed services right now, I would be scared out of my mind. But i would always feel like a hero when i go out and fight. I could get killed any time wherever I am.

I think it's great that the united states has a day to remember the veterans that have served for our country. A way to honor the veterans is through the wounded warrior program. Another way to honor our veterans is you could wave a flag or write letters to them and say thank you.It would be lonely it would also be very sad to see people laying down there lives for our freedom. I would like to see us honor our veterans more than once a year.

This day is very important because it gives the people of the united states a time to remember why we are so lucky to be free from war and suffering. To honor this day or military people and veterans we can maybe go to a veterans place and talk/listen to what they have to say. I also think America can just respect all the soldiers by saluting them or other things. In the armed services today i would be kinda scared because just knowing that you could get shot or killed anytime is scary and not fun to realize. I would also be proud of myself and know that when I am fighting that it is for my country. Ummm...Well see vetrans day is a veary important day but people dont really dont think about it much.WE should maby do a ceremony at one of the military cementaries. And if I had to serve my countrey it would be scary maby more than that.... tarrafying. But if I did and died I die trying. Trying to keep my country safe.This day is important and I love it.
ReplyDeletesushipirate/cody: i think veterans day is fantastic and this is so cool because it honors people who fought for this country and sometimes died for this country.in school every year we make veteran cards in art class to send to the veterans witch is a nice thing to do because they know that somebody cares about them (veterans).i think that we would be alot more tactfull because we went from standing in line and saying fire to hiding in the trees and ambushing.Today the war would be alot more scary with all the bombs

The fact that people will risk their lives to save their families and friends and people they don't even know means a lot. They care a lot about the people in America and do their best to protect the people in the states. They deserve so much attention and thanks. I think veterans day should be an all week holiday. Without the veterans we wouldn't be the safe country we are. On veterans day I could show that I cared by putting a flag outside my house.I don't think I could be a veteran. I think it would be scary. I do t think I would have the guts to help save amrica. I think working in the military would be scary and a hard job. I give thanks youth to all those who are in the military!
