Forbes Magazine released its list of the 70 most powerful people in the world this week. The top 10 include the heads of state of the United States, Germany, Great Britain, China, and Russia, the King of Saudi Arabia, a retired CEO, a precocious 27 year old, the Federal Reserve Chairman, and the Pope.
Forbes is famous for its frequent lists of various things. They rank the richest, the best, and the most powerful. They rank women, companies, men, colleges, and countries. Their lists are intriguing to the public fascinated with the ideas of wealth and power.

Why do you think the readers of Forbes are interested in the ranking Forbes publishes every so often? What do you think of Forbes’ list of the most powerful people in the world? Jacob- I think that people in Forbes like to ramk people every so often to show people who is in power around the world. This is a source of info for the general public to see who runs our modern world. I personally don't like to rank people from best to worst. So I don't really enjoy this. I agree with this list. Bill Gates sort of surprises me. I have no idea why though. I think that one or some f the owners of oil drills in Asia should be up there.
ReplyDeleteJacquline- Well, I think that Forbes does the ranking ever so often because it helps people to know who's running our world and who has a lot of impact on it. I really don't think it's nice to rank people. I find it in some cases racist and you don't see women on it a lot which is also I find a little down grading.Hey this is just my opinion. There isn't anyone that really surprises me and I don't think many people could be added to the list. Right now, I think that there should be a couple different people on there, but hey I don't even know who should be on there. The list will probably change in the future. I would love to see more women on that list next time, but hour world is changing constantly and who knows what the future holds for man kind.
ReplyDeleteMatea(tea)-I think why the Forbes are ranking people to show them what they think of everyone.If you do something good and they want to rank you for it, they are showing who's in control. I think the Forbes list the most powerful people in the world because those people have accoplished so many things. Those people are good people also. Those people have also something, like power or made something relly famous.If i had a choice to rank some people,I wouldn't do it.It's like saying that someeone is better than other people. No one suprises me on the list. I wouldn't know who to put on the list if I had a chance.
ReplyDeleteAaron, I think that Forbes does this so often because they want people to know who's in power.I think the pope is the most powerful in the world because he controls the church and 1/6 of the population is catholic. I agree. I think there could be some changes but I mostly agree. The CEO of facebook surprises me a little. I don't think there should be someone else.
ReplyDeleterobert/reality strikes you hard- i think the readers of forbes are so interested because its shows who they think is in power and that the readers themselves cant think of there own list so they have to see other peoples. I guess i agree.... they're the ones you always hear about in news right? so that would mean there prolly the most important. I think i should be in the list :D just kidding but no i have noone to add to the list.

I think when the Forbes list the most powerful people in the world I think that they have accoplished a lot of things in there life. I agree about all the Forbes choosing all those people but the reason that I agree is that Barack Obama is at the top of the list. I think the one that surprised me is that the founder of Facebook, I think that is insane that he is in there. I don't think there should be another person in the list our I don't no anybody that should be in there.
ReplyDeletesi-fy geek/nissa- I think that Forbes posts THE LIST because most of their readers are leaders of countries/companies/religions/um.... any other big important influential thing. I mean, if I was a big leader of something important, I'd like to know who the competition was, so I could take them down and DOMINATE!!! Well, that's only if I was powerful, etc. I can't really do that now... Anyway, the list is pretty good. However, I don't get why the founder of facebook is on there. That's kind of wierd, I mean, unless there was some tech/electronic virus invented where facebook can control you via your computer/ipad,etc. it doesn't seem too terribbly powerful (besides the fact that the inventor is rich)However, it is pretty influential (how many people do you know who have facebook pages huh?!?) I can't really think of anyone else who should be on there, seeing as I don't keep tabs on all the powerful/rich people in the world. It'd be pretty cool if I made it on there someday (of course, I'm still dreaming on that one ^_^)

ReplyDeleteI think people read the lists so they can compare it with their opinions of who they think should be on the list. I think its good that Forbes ranks the people bcause if you're not as high as you want to be you can try harder to be a better person or buisness man. I was suprised that Oprah wasn't on the list because she is very rich and a lot of people take her advice. I Think the top ten is fine.
Gabi- I think people are interested in the ranking because if you didnt know who the most powerfull people were(like I didnt) you might want to know or you might want to see what they think and agree or disagree. I think the people on the list are probely the most powerfull people. For example we are the most powerful nation so it makes since Obama is #1. I do agree that those people are very powerful people in our world. One that did suprise was the pope I knew he was powerfull I just didnt know that he was in the top ten of the most powerfull people in the world. I was also really suprised the founder of facebook was also on there. I cant think of anyone else that I would add to the list.
ReplyDeleteSena- I think that people would be intrested in this ranking because they want to know who runs the world. This ranking shows what kind of world we have and who are the social leaders. We need to have the list posted often so we can know how our world is changing every day. I think forbes list is a very INTERESTING thing. I mean who knows who will read it. I mainly think its odd because who knows whos point of view this is coming from. What surprises me is if those are the top 10 most powerful in the world, how I have heard of 3 of them. I guess I agree with this list because on the list we have presidents, popes, prime ministers, and billionairs. It suprised me that Mark Zuckerberg (the founder of facebook)s name is on there. I know that facebook is a very big thing but I personally wouldn't say he is powerful. If someone had to be added to this list I would say Oprah. She has changed a lot of peoples lives and I would say powerful as well.
ReplyDeleteTaylor- I think the readers would be interested because who isn't? People always ask questions about stuff like "who's the most rich?" or "who's the most famous?" I think Forbes is telling everyone what they might be thinking. I think the Forbes list is helpful because there's always that question in the back of your mind of who the most powerful might be. I don't usually read Forbes, but now i know how nice it would be to read it. I agree with the list, but something really surprised me. Why isn't Oprah on the list? I mean, she's visited many countries. Shouldn't the world know about her? Maybe she was number 11. So maybe I don't agree. I don't know.

I don't understand how Mark Zuckerberg(founder of Facebook) is number nine in the list i thought he would be much higher like five or even three.There is one person that should of been on that list but now he's dead. That is Steve Jobs(founder of apple). I think he should of been level of Ben Gates or one higher or one lower.He really changed computers to me.

I think since this America it makes since that Obama is thought to be the most powerful person in the world. Plus the U.S. is one of the most powerful nations in the world. ReplyDeleteDaniel- I think that having the top ten most powerful people is a great idea because who wouldn't want to know who the top ten most powerful people in the world are. I think everyone should know this. It gives everyone something to debate about and have their own opinions about who is the most powerful person in the world. I think the forbes list is accurate. I agree on most of them but I do think that Pope Benedict should be at 4 or 3 and i do think he should definitely be ahead of Bill Gates. I think that Bill Clinton should be one of the top ten most powerful people. He was a great president and still is helping our world. I think Hilary Clinton should also be in the top ten too. I think she is the most powerful women in the world.

I agree with most of them but i think the pope should have a higher ranking than some of those other people. I agree that the president is the first most powerful person. I think more women should be on their. Women are pretty powerful. Men shouldnt get all the credit when women do alot too.

Catie-I think people are interested in the Forbes list because it's kind of cool to see who has the most power in our lives and the world. I think that the Forbes list is sometimes based on opinions and not facts. For example, it doesn't matter how rich you are or what country you control, it only matters about what you can do to make life better and easier. I agree with the list about the Pope and Obama but Mark Zuckerberg surprises me. I don't think that he should be on the list because he didn't do important stuff like help the world or anything. All he did was make it easier for us to put personal, stupid stuff on the internet. Oprah should be on the list because she helps people feel better about themselves and be healthier. She also gave out great advice which to me is more important than fame or money.

This webste list is definatly based off opinions. Power is something we all want, but if anyone gets it they have to be carefully with it

ReplyDeleteEmma- I think that people are interested in what they see, read, and hear about in the media newspapers. To see their rank in the Forbes poll gives me a perspective on their importance and their role in society. I was surprised that there weren't more women listed in the top ten. I know of lists of women who have contributed greatly in society. By all means everyone listed above is very important, but there are still many others out in the world equal to what they have accomplished.

And i think that yoou would want to know if you were on the most powerful people list or even the richest people list. I think that they did the list pretty accurately. And i also think that it is cool that the president of the United States is the most powerful person in the world. I do agree with the rankings but i dont really know about how powerful people are and what it means. i am surprised that there are no women on the top ten most powerful people list. Because i think that there were a lot of women who did very great things in this world and have accomplished so much. I dont really have an opinion on who should be on the top ten worlds most powerful list because i dont really get what "powerful" in the list means.

People ALWAYS want to know who has the most money or power or most, famousness.(?)I don't even know why people would want to know anyway, so you could go rob 'em or something? You can't take away power, well, metaphorically speaking. And how in heavens name do you steal famous-ness?!(hey, there's that weird word again!I'll have to add it to my personal dictionary...) I think that Forbes list is pretty darn good, but what makes me kinda sad is that there's only one woman on the list. I mean the world does not revolve around men! (sorry Mr.Grant!)Women can have just as much power as any man! But what I really want to know is why the founder of facebook is on the list? I mean yeah sure he made one of the biggest social media programs in the world, SO WHAT?! That doesn't really give you 'power' per-say, but lots of publicity and fame; power doesn't really fit any of those definitions...(well, in my book at least!) If someone were to be added to the list I would have to say, i don't really know. I don't stalk people to see if they have 'power' or not! Mark Zuckerurg though just invented a good website. It doesnt surprise me. I think Steve Jobs should be up there because he is the best inventor of all time.
