Sadly reported this week was the death of Steve Jobs. Maybe you have or have not heard his name, but his impact on the world will long be remembered and his presence will be missed, particularly in the technology industry.
As the co-founder of Apple computers in the 1970s, he has demonstrated a commitment to the same ideas for close to 40 years, create something for people that is simple and helpful. From the first Apple computer and its quirky operating system to the iPad and its 140,000 apps, he has been the catalyst to product innovation and development.
His ideas have changed the way we listen to and purchase music, raised our expectations concerning our mobile phones, and have given us an easy-to-use home computer that is the size of a notepad. He has provided the vision and taken the risks many would not. He has questioned the status quo and made many decisions based on his gut not on market research. He has been the leader in making technology not only useful by stylish.
Innovation is difficult. It requires vision, creativity, and guts. To most, it is easier to improve on something as oppose to creating something no one has ever seen before. His ability to innovate was one of the many unique qualities of Steve Jobs that will be missed.
Besides the computer itself, what do you think is the coolest technology product ever released? Why? What do you think is required to be an innovator? What more can be done in school to inspire innovation?

ReplyDeleteI think the coolest technology product ever is the i-pad.The i-pad is in my opinion the best apple device ever released. It is bigger than the i-phine so u can read books,it has over 140,000 aps, and by the time we're in college we won't have textbooks we'll probably use the i-pad.
I think an innovator has to have a lot of determination because while they lead the way they will run into problems along the way and will have to fix them. I think St. Joes should have an optional essay compettition once a quarter for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade. The topics should be somthing fun to write about like an invention you would want to invent. To make kids want to do this the teachers shoul give a prize, so the kids will be detirmined to win like an innovator.
Jackie- I would totally have to agree that the i-pad is the coolest technology ever. It is so cool that you can talk on it, take, pictures and even video chat. I think it is really cool because you can do so much on it.
ReplyDeleteI think innovation takes a lot of hard work and determination. While people forage a path to new technology it takes a
lot of patience to work out the kinks.
Innovation takes a lot of imagination and teachers should really try to encourage that. They should expose kids more to today's technology so we feel more connected and excited about it. They should also teach us the basics of electronic's structure so we would feel like we could do this some day. :)
Dan(tyreke tyrone jerome carter III) To me the coolest invention ever is the ipad. it is awesome how you can carry it wherever you want, take pictures, email and go online, and there is thousands of apps you can buy for useful or enjoyable times. I think to be an inventor you must be creative and very smart. Steve Jobs was a great inventor and will never be forgotten. To inspire innovation in schools teachers should talk about why we need inventors and what it takes to be one. They should also tell them the positive things of being an inventor and how inventors are successful and become famous and rich.

ReplyDeleteis the ipad. You can buy a lot of fun apps and learn some things on them. Like the ipad2 you can learn how to read,write, and what everyone enjoys playing games. You can even go on the internet on them if you get something for it. For someone to be an innovator you have to have a lot of creative ideas. The strength to keep moving forward when an idea fails. They have to work so hard and can't rush their work to go faster, it has to take time. If the teachers need ideas for school and no teachers come up with anything good. They could have the students write down their thoughts. The teachers should encourage the students to give their best effort and the top three ideas can get a prize or an extra recess.
Kordell-K-dog-I think the coolest technology is the i-pad. You can buy cool and fun apps on the i-pad, and learn some new things like math, english, and more. You can go on the internet and look up some cool things. For someone to be an innovator you have to now a lot of creative ideas. They would have to work so hard that they can't rush there ideas. School can write down there thoughts. The teachers should encourage the students.
ReplyDeleteAmaia-I think it was the cellphone. The idea that you could talk to someone anywhere in the world and you didn't have to be connected to a whole machine is so amazing. I think to be an innovator I you would have to be very creative, think outside the box, and think the impossible. Teachers need to encouage kids to think their own way. To be creative. Not encuage them to believe that there's only one way of doing things.

ReplyDeleteMy favorite thing is the Ipad because of storage and how easy it is to use. A good imagination ,to under stand socsity ,and be able to work hard and focuss when it is time. I think in our school to help we could have a worck shop and computer class to learn about that stuff.

star trekkie /Nissa- I think that the iPod touch is the best, since you can surf the web, do face time, listen to music, do games, etc. (note, i do not actually HAVE an iPod touch. i just think they're cool and i've done my research) I think you need to have a very active imagination and be very handy with tools, ideas, and possibly um.... geeky? to come up with this stuff. I mean, you have to be SERIOUSLY up to date with the latest progamming stuff to put it all together. I think in schools, we can totally promote innovation by actually having a school wide contest to design, and build an invention, no matter how crazy it seems. I would love something like that, because everyone would participate, and we might actually find some pretty good ideas!
ReplyDeleteTaylor- I think the coolest invention would be the phone. Think about all the people you wouldn't be able to keep in touch with without a phone. You would also always have to meet up with someone in order to talk them. And how would you even plan it? You might not see that person on a regular basis. What it takes to be an innovator is being very creative. You also have to have an open mind and you can't be afraid that someone won't like your idea. You just have to put it out there. In school, there could be contests to see who could create the most interesting thing. Or who could make the weirdest invention anyone's ever seen.
ReplyDeleterobert- electricity? come on isnt it the greatest invention cause without how we have stuff like the ipad and ipods and even cellphones without being able to power them. what is required to be an innovator? a mind and some ideas is all i need to get the inventions i make with rubber bands and paper clips. some of the things that can be done in scholls to help get more innovators. make more enteriprising classes and teach what it means.

ReplyDeleteGabi- i think one of the greatest inventions is the cell phone. because of it we can communicate with others outside of our house. this especially helps with people who work in an office building. if they have to travel they use the cellphone as a main part of their jobs. being patient is really required in being an inventor. sometimes your ideas dont work. sometimes people dont believe in your ideas and put you down. ways to get kids excited about inventing would be listening to the ideas that they have. do little competitions inside your classrooms about inventing to get them excited.
ReplyDeleteAlice(in wonderland!X-D)- O gosh...I don't know, but I think I'm gonna have to say the cell phone. You can talk to anybody around the whole WORLD and that is really something! People millions of miles away can talk to you, if you have a loved one in the army or traveling you can contact them and know they're ok. You would have to be super creative and kinda stubborn to be an innovator. Creative because you have to come up with something totally different and figure out how to make it all come together with the components you have. Stubborn because it might not always be easy and smooth as silk, eventually you ARE going to hit a bump and have work through it. AND some people might think you are the craziest person in the WORLD but you have to ignore them and keep pressing forward. Hmm, well I think we should be given something that we have to do every day, like(i dunno!) organizing clothes.(?) Then we have to make something that would make that task easier! I think that would be pretty darn fun if you ask me...

Without a cell phone you wouldnt be able to call your mom right after school or be able to talk to your friends in privacy. i like to be able to talk on the phone, knowing that my parents arent listening on another phone in the house.
ReplyDeleteinovation takes a lot of work and concentration. you need to use your immagenation a lot and have lots of ideas. it takes a lot of creativity, which teachers in schools should encourage more. the teachers could do more activities and art progects that involve using the kids' ammgenations
Bigger Star Trekkie than Nissa (Vince)-I think the coolest technology ever released is the i-pad. I think it is the coolest invention because you can do so much stuff with it, such as: play games, e-mail, go online, skype, take pictures and many other things that satisfy your wildest dreams. You could even do all your homework on it too. The things that I think are required to be an innovator are to be very very smart, creative, enthusiastic, and determined. Some ways to create innovation in schools is to have teachers teach their students creative thinking. Creative thinking can be taught by having kids use their imagination to think outside the box. Schools could also have the kids do projects about the most innovative things that they could think off that would effect our society.
ReplyDeleteEmma- I think that the best technology product ever released is the ipad and cell phone so far. The ipad is really unique because it has many benefits to it. Such as, how you can go on the internet, how it can also be fun because all of the games you can enjoy (even adults), you can buy books you enjoy reading that just pop up on the screen, you can visit with your family and friends by video chatting them, you can download pictures from your computer onto them, you can listen to your favorite music on them, and lists of other things. Then there is the cell phone. With this you can call your relatives and friends throughout the world with a tiny device. The thought of cell phones are amazing because of how they work. No one really realizes how handy they are. Cell phones are very useful to have for getting a hold of someone when you can't do it physically aka (texting). Texting has become like another language pretty much. It is really cool that a message can be sent to someone just by pressing a button and they will get it in seconds! I think that having the ability of never giving up, being smart, and having skill and a good attitude is what it takes to be an innovator. A couple ways to create innovation in schools is to have teachers let their students express themselves in their own ways by maybe having different school projects, auctions, and fun weekend activities. Also have teachers teach students more about how technology has really effected every-day-life from the past so we can know why it is so important and very useful to have around the world.
ReplyDeleteSena- I think that the coolest and most helpful product ever released is probably the cell phone, imagine life without. How could you call mom to tell her you where going to be late. When she may think you where hit by a car. There are also a lot more important reasons. You now have your computer on your phone so that is always handy. You can take pictures, without taking your camera with you everywhere. Last of all you can text. Texting is a much faster way to talk which can be very handy in some cases. I think something that is required to be considered an innovator is an idea. Everything starts with an idea. Some ideas which are bad and some are the best ideas ever. At schools they should option more classes like engineering or be a scientist for a day club. Schools should offer more clubs, camps, and classes that could make them more creative.
ReplyDeleteJacob- I think that the coolest invention ever made was the telephone. In this day in age, people just take the phone for granted. I once did a report on the maker of the phone. The telephone just baffles me after learning about it more. Especially since if you ask someone how a telephone works, they would probably tell you how to dial someones number. It is a very confusing invention. I think an innovator has to be very patient because every time they fail(which is a lot) they have to be able to try again. A great example of this is Abraham Lincoln. He failed so many times before he accomplished something. My dad has a poster in his office on Abe Lincoln. It goes like this:

In school, I think that we should write essays on inventions that we make up. We should learn more about the best inventions the world has ever seen, and learn about who invented them. I love inventions, I think they are very cool. I have always admired the innovators and their will to succeed.
Katie- I personally think that the ipod is the coolest technology ever! You can take your music where ever you want without the giant stack of cds. Now some ipods can text and go on the internet. I think that an innovator should really like their idea and support it even when others don't think so. most of the greatest inventions start out smaller before they become a hit. I also think in school to promote inovators we should have an invention fair or an invention competion and mabe it could be some peoples start in their inventing career.
ReplyDeleteBelle- Wow ummmm there are a lot of amazing inventions I read a few people's Comments befor mine and they were iPads, phones and other things I have had experience with all of them my favorite is the computer but because thats not an option I would say the iPod my iPod touch was amazing I loved it I could check my email, listen to music before I when to bed, take pictures, play games, and soooooooooo many other countless things. To be an innovator you have to be really creative and very patient. I think that in school people can learn to be creative and succeed

ReplyDeleteOkay first of all I would like to say that I am doing this on my iPod touch and I think that that is very cool( I couldn't of done it without Steve jobs) I also want to say that Steve jobs was a great man and he was just so cool. I also want to talk about how that I was in Portland this weekend and I walked pas the apple store and there in front of it was a big picture of Steve jobs and under it there was notes talking about how people thought of him and that they would miss him and I thought that was very touching.
So what do I think the best invention is? Well I think that the best invention was the iPhone. I have 4 great reasons for that. First of all I would like to mention something about iOS. I think that iOS is the most ingenious thing ever!
Ok my first reason that the iPhone is the best Invention is this. Most every phone can Text and call of course but how many phones can call someone while you are checking your email. That is a great feature that is on the iPhone
My second reason that the iPhone is the best invention. The app store. But I don't know of many phones that have an app store. Much less of any phone that has an app store with over 100,000 apps. That is an amazing amount of apps. Plus there is hundreds made every day.
My third reason. Multi-tasking. I don't know of any phone that has multitasking besides the iPhone. Yes one brilliant thing that Steve jobs put out there in the iPhone 4 is multitasking. I think it's very cool that you can be talking to your friend, listening to music, downloading an app, and checking your email all at the same time.
My fourth and final. Photos. This new iPhone that just came out has a 8 megapixel camera. That is amazing. You can take stunning pics with the new iPhone.
What it takes to be a good inventor. Well I think it takes courage and time and that you never give up.

You can play games, go on the internet, etc. Its like an ipod but bigger and you can do more fun things on it. I think to be an innovator you need to have a big imagination to think of crazy things that people all over the world will love. You also have to know something might go wrong and you have to keep trying until its right. All that eventually pays off. You also need patience if something goes wrong you have to be patient enough to keep trying. In schools we should have more contests with things kids your age like to do. ReplyDeleteThe greatest invention ever is the wheel. Without the wheel where would we be right now. Without the wheel we wouldn't have airplanes, cars, wheelbarrows, and lots of other important stuff. It takes a lot, you have to have an education,and believe in yourself and others. You have to have kids learn at a young age. You should teach them to never give up, and have a positive look at things. Kids should be taught, when all else fails try again .
What's the greatest invention? The shoe. If we didn't have shoes our toes would freeze off in the winter. And, I think education is very important to get a job and other things in life. We need to be able to know math and other subjects to do stuff. Kids should stay in school and keep trying until they get it - and, don't ever give up!!!
