On September 16, 2011 Disney is re-releasing one of its most beloved films of all time. The Lion King is due out in theatres across the country, this time in 3D. Originally released in 1994, The Lion King is a story depicting the coming of age of a young lion cub destined to be king of the jungle. After losing his father at a young age as a result of his uncle’s murderous plot to take over the kingdom, Simba chooses to run away for a life with no worries. He is called back by a dear friend after his Uncle Scar has all but destroyed the kingdom. Simba battles and defeats his uncle restoring the kingdom and the society to its natural order.
The story is a classic rendition of Shakespeare’s Hamlet, using a background and artistry never seen before. The movie grossed over $783 million worldwide not to mention the incredible profits from merchandise including coloring books, costumes, water bottles, lunch boxes, and stuffed animals. It is the sixth highest grossing animated film of all time and the highest grossing hand-drawn animated film ever.
The Lion King is a movie everyone should see. It will make you laugh, cry, and rejoice as you journey with Simba from his childhood to adulthood.
What was your favorite childhood movie? Why? What do you think of the animated movies produced today? What kind of influence can movies have on children and our society?

my favorite childhood movie.... did i even have a childhood? oh thats right i remember now. ok it was... well to tell you the truth i dont have a movie so i just put 2 t.v. shows claymore and POKéMON! Got to catch em ALL! lmao. why? really you would ask that question about pokemon? it had the best theme song evar! why wouldnt u love it when your a little crazy monkey with candy and pokemon toys?!? animated movies produced to day.... revoltingly horrible.... what happened to the cheezy theme song and the crazy anime faces japan uses when they text or made the craziest anime evar? influence? ya there is a what of it it shapes what we will say and do in the world i watched the lion king so many times and i now literally act as hakuna matata is my adage. i follow it like i follow my brother through the store saying Indy! from shortroute in indiana jones. lets just say movies change a lot of things and it should stay that way. but i still think we should go back to the cheezy crap and anime faces for the fun of it. also it makes you feel buzzed out of your mind on a straight diet pixystixs and soda, then there is the crash though..... D: <------emote face :D

ReplyDeleteso srry forgot name up above my favorite childhood movie blah blah blah
its robert my bad Mr. Grant
Kordell/K-dog- My favorite movie when I was a child was the Loin King I diont know why but I just like that movie, it is cool, funny, and sad. My favorite character was that hog the hog was so funny and his friend is funny to those are my favorite characters.
ReplyDeleteSena- As I was growing up i would always watch Shrek. I asked my mom and she said that I loved to listen to the music and sing along and donkey was my favorite! I think the animated movies produced today are a little different they have changed the picture and they a little more appropriate then they used to. I think movies have a huge influence on everybody's life. They make people believe things in the movies as if that could happen in real life. Also kids get addicted to watching movies and being lazy. Which is bad for there health. So it could have a bad influence on the kids who watch it.
ReplyDeleteryan- probably my favorite childhood movie was land before time. I had to ask my mom because i didn't remember what it was because it was so long ago. I think like it was because it had dinosaurs,To day animated moves are bad and good but most of them are bad because three not making new moves. Three ether basing it of a book or a old move. Also to what robert said there coming out with crazy animated japans faces and stuff. The influence that the movies today are good and bad. Some movies have a good point with in the movie.Others are just terrible and not good, even more for the children.
ReplyDeleteGabi-My favorite movie when I was little was probely Dumbo. I loved how the little elaphant had such big ears. I felt bad for him but he was so cute. Today I think if they make an animated movie that they end up making a two and three like with the lion king or toystory. They cant just leave it at the one movie. I think sometimes that it ends up ruining the movie. Today depending on what type of movie it is it could have a good or bad influence on kids. It all depends on what movies they watch and how they react to it.
ReplyDeleteKatie H.-My favorite movie when I was little was all of the Disney princess movies. When I was little liked these movies because I liked princesses and fairy tales. I think some of the animated movies today are really good but sometimes they can turn out to be to cheesey and are kind of copying another movie. I also think that today they movies can be good or bad. It just depends on what the story line is and the message of the movie. I think that sometimes they push it a little with chlidrens movies with how much violence and language is in them.
ReplyDeleteStephanie-my favorite movie when I was little would have to be a movie called dinosaur. I liked it because it had dinosaurs which I love. Animation is a lot better now because the pictures flow together and it makes the movie more exciting. Movies now are more inappropriate than they used to be. Some are funny in an inappropriate way and others are too scary for some kids they also have bad words. Now that movies are out people aren't exercising or playing outside as much. You have to be away of how many movies you watch or you could become addicted to them or become a couch potato, which no one wants
ReplyDeleteNatalia-My favorite movie when i was a kid was Toy Story. I watched both one and two over and over. Jessie was always my favorite. I like the animated movies today. They are more towards kids but i still like to watch them. I think the movies have a good and bad influence on children. They hear bad words and they will go say that to other people. They have a good influence because children can learn good things to do from what is shown in the movie. Some people also just watch movies all day and dont learn anything and just sit around all day.
ReplyDeleteEmma- While growing up, movies were a big part of my childhood. My favorite movie was probably Snow White. I love the seven dwarfs and how all of their personalities are so different. Also I like Snow Whites personality because she is so sweet and genuine towards everyone. Before, annimated movies were usually just about pincesses and prices, castles, dragons, and bad guys or girls and the producers would make the movie short, simple, and understanding. Annimated movies nowadays have changed because they are usually a longer seried movie such as Shrek, Toy Story, and The Lion King. The movies now are also better pictured, and in a way more realistic. Movies have many influences on children and our society because kids get very entertained and enjoy them. Kids can fall asleep to them and they will never get tired of watching them. Movies can bring back memories, and also kids kind of get attatched to them in their own kind of way. Movies are a great thing to have around becauase some of them give great messages out to kids and whenever you don't really have anything to do, you can just play a DVD of your favorite movie and enjoy!
ReplyDeleteJackie, I absolutely as a kid loved Peter Pan! I as a kid loved the thought of being able to fly and I especially loved Tinkerbell!!!! I love some of the new movies that are cartooned today. They send out great messages to kids and are great for everyone to watch. I think it sends out a message to always shoot for the stars and that miracles do happen to those who work hard, and cheesy enough have a dream. I think a lot of the Disney movies, in particular, really teach everyone that your dreams, wishes, and hopes are all worth fighting for no matter how small or large. As sad and cheesy as it is, I personally love the movie Tangled!! It is amazing and to be honest I love all the princess movies and occasionally I'll plop down on the couch and watch them. They always make me feel good and really remind me that I can do/be whatever and whomever I want to be and I hope that everyone else feels that way too. These movies really send out great positive messages and i hope Disney still decides to make lots of their great movies!!!!! :)
ReplyDeleteMatea- My favorite childhood movie was The Little Mermaid. It was my favorite movie because I loved everything in it and about it. I really liked Ariel's singing. The animated productions today are some what a little better. Some of the older movies are stil some of the best. Some of the animated productions today can give lessons in life. The movies now can give children good imagination. They can play in their own type of fantatsy world. It can give them new ideas. It is also bad for their health if all they do is watch telavision.
ReplyDeleteDanny Boy- my favorite movie growing up was Ice Age. I thought it was hilarious and thought the sloth was funny. I also liked the baby that they saved from dying. I think the animated movies today are great. They are still exciting and interesting to watch and they have also improved the picture in animation. Movies can influence children and society by the lessons and friendships. They bring happiness to lots of children and are just are fun to watch for everyone. But sometimes some movies can use bad language or not set a good example for children. Overall animated movies are great though.
ReplyDeleteVince-When i was growing up my favorite movie was The Lion King. I could watch it over and over again and still not get sick of watching it. My favorite characters in this movie are the baby lion, the warthog, and the little ground squirrel thing. I like this movie because the characters are played great and it is exciting. The thing i dont like about this movie is when the dad lion dies. I feel so bad for the baby lion because that would suck to lose your dad. I think that Disney movies have been a big influence on my life and the society. Kids watch them all the time and still stay entertained. I think that the movies have changed a lot. Some stuff has changed like the picture has gotten better and so has the animation. I think that the Disney movies might be even more popular than other movies. I bet that the people who made these movies had to work really hard and they should be proud of that because they accomplished great things. I love the Disney movies and hope they come out with more of them and that they get even better.
ReplyDeleteBelle/ my favorite childhood movie was DEFANATLY Sound of Music...... I know what kind of kid movie is that! But i still know every word to all the songs , my dad says I watched at least 50 times a day LITERALY!!!! I know a little crazy but I loved it in every home video me and me little brother reed are bouncing up and down singing doe a deer, childhood memories make up who you are, I haven't seen sound of music in a wile but I'm sure if you played it for me I would be able to sing it all for you it will always be there. Amimation ...... I think it's great most of the time , like in the lion king it was great and I think kids can relate to big faces and talking animals , and today kids are very influenced by what the watch. I can't wait to see the lion king in 3D I think it will be even better
ReplyDeleteaaron_ Personally my favorite movie of all time was monsters inc. I really liked monsters inc because of all the monsters and especially mike wazowski. I also really liked the song from lion king. I liked it better when in childrens movies they didnt take a bunch of time to do a bunch of 3d stuff with the movie and just put it out there. children love the older movies that dont make them think about what is happening in the movie. also i think that in 3d movies that sometimes it can give a person a headache and 3d just is ... weird in my opinion. Plus one of the things that is also bad with 3d movies is that it costs extra money. a regular movies is expensive but 3d movies are especially expensive.
ReplyDeleteJacob- My favorite childhood movie would have to be Monsters Inc. I like the message it sends, that laughter is more powerful than screams. A lot of people today might think that movies today are a lot more violent than older movies. But are they really that different? In "Snow White" the Queen is trying to kill Snow White, while in "How to Train Your Dragon" they are trying to kill dragons. Though there are a lot more "physical" weapons in it. I know that some movies can have negative influences on children and our society. But if you are raised in the right kind of family, you can find the good lessons even in semi violent movies.
ReplyDeleteAmaia-Although theere are probaly many movies i loved but can't remember, I'd say Mary Poppins was my favorite. I think the reason I loved it so much was the fact that it was a cute childerens movie but if you watch it when you get older it still has meaning to you, just in new ways. Animated movies today, in my opinion, are almost too relistic. it kind of takes away from the Hollywood effect. Plus I don't think there made as well anymore. Almost like they've ran out of ideas and are just making movies, to make movies. I think movies play a huge role in kids lives especially kids who watch a lot of them. I think they try to base reality off of movie and things that are fantisy. I think it might also mold their behaivors based on if they watch violence or movies where kids treat there parents with disrespect. I'm not saying kids shouldn't watch movies, I just think at such a young and curial age in their development, parent should monitor the movies kids watch more closely.
ReplyDeleteNissa- My fav movies when I was little was Cinderella and Ice Age. For some reason, when I was in the princess phase, I was obsessed with Cinderella. I loved the character Diego in Ice Age for some reason; probably because of the sarcasm. Animated movies today are really cool because of all the high tech stuff nowadays, but sometimes, the producers don't know when to stop. Like, with some movies, you can have one and be done, but they eventually drag it out to maybe 5 movies, which I think is verging on ridiculous. Movies can influence kids to be couch potatoes, hogging popcorn and being really, REALLY lazy. Movies affect society because people will spend a ton of money on-not just the movie- all sorts of extra junk like cups. Also, the parents can get really hung up on the violence, even though there can also be good morals to the story.
ReplyDeleteTaylor- it took me a long time to decide, but my favorite movie was Hercules. my brother kept making me watch it because there was nothing better to do. so after we had watched it a million times, i actually started to pay attention to the story and found it really good. i really liked the bad guy because his hair was made of fire. i don't like him now though. the animated movies that are made today are very different than what i watched when i was little. they don't have as much meaning to me as the older ones do. but i do think that making the Lion King in 3D was a good idea. if someone didn't ever watch it when they were little, it would be a cool experience to watch it for the first time in 3D, but its still better watching the original. i think some movies have a good influence and some other ones have a bad influence. the good ones(like the Lion King, Toy Story, and Hercules) can teach kids good lessons and can improve their imagination. bad ones (can't real;y think of any) can teach kids about war and fighting when they are way too young. this could scare them and give them nightmares. almost all of the animated ones have good influences, and I've loved pretty much every single one that I've watched.
ReplyDeleteAlice: Well it took FOREVER to come to this conclusion, but my favorite movie when I was little was Finding Nemo. I really liked Crush the turtle, and the concept of a dad fish going on a quest to find his son, that just kinda interested me. I think today's animated films are a lot better quality, picture wise, but content wise I'm not so sure... I think some of the animated movies out there are not fit for younger children to see and some animated movies kids are seeing don't have the right ratings. Because some G-rated movies have some very adult concepts and I don't think that's good for our next generations.
ReplyDeleteCatie- My favorite movie as a kid was most definitely The Lion King. I loved the story and the songs, especially Akuna Matata or however you spell it. I would sing my heart out to that song. I think that the animated movies produced today aren't as good as the ones we consider "classics" because they aren't memorable like Sleeping Beauty or Dumbo. They're popular for about two months and then they're lost in the endless lines of faded movies. I think that movies today have a postive influence on kids but they also can have a bad influence on kids but it depends on the movie they're watching.
ReplyDeleteAudrey-I really liked princess movies because i got more interested in the movie...... actually i really don't know why I liked them but now I like them because they have a lesson in them.i do agree with alice on the ratings of shows and movies of today because of certain things people put in the movies and shows. but i do think some movies have some good influence on kids. not all movies are bad but some in the world can.:-)
ReplyDeleteNoriko........my favorite movie when I was younger had to be memo because all of the cool colors and the cool fish. I also liked that movie because I could watch it over and over again and not get tired of it.today some of the animated movies can be inappropriate and persuade kids into doing bad things.these movies have a lot of impact on our society because kids talk about them, there are posters everywhere, and they usually make action figures for the movie.
ReplyDeletethe lion king is one of my favorite movies when i was growing up because the movie funnie and had songs to go along.Animated movies are created for kids to make them happy and exited and to eaven spend time whith the family.movies infulence kids today because intead of voilent movies they are taught to have fun whith movies whithout people dieing and teach them not to do horrible things in life
ReplyDeletethe one abouve is cody's
ReplyDeleteDillon\Dill bill
ReplyDeleteMy favorite childhood movie was Finding Nemo. I liked it because it was an adventure. I think animated movies are good "kid movies", teach good lessons, and have good humor. I think the influence on kids depends on what kind of movie you are watching if it is a good moive it will infulence in a good way. If you watch bad moives it will influence you in a bad way.
peter-My favrite childhood movie was monsters inc.i liked it because it has a good storyline.I like animated movies because they give kids a good influence. The new movies are not cassics so they are not as good such as the simpsons,or family guy.
