On Sunday evening around 8:45 pm, our regular scheduled television shows were interrupted with breaking news. The news would inspire patriotism, relief, anxiety, and trepidation across the United States and the world. The news: Osama bin Laden is dead.
It has been close to 10 years since the bin Laden became a popular terrorist icon and known across the country as the face and mind behind the elusive and deadly terrorist organization “al-Qaida”. Even though he created this organization in 1988, it would not be until 2001 when he and his cohorts become a household name. The fateful day in September would forever change Americans and our sense of security in the world.
News of his death spread quickly on Sunday evening. Hours before President Obama addressed the nation, people from coast to coast were spreading the news through social media. ESPN and other news affiliates were able to capture the looks of joy and relief on the faces of those attending the Phillies/Mets baseball game. The crowd went as far to begin chanting “U-S-A”. In other cities, people gathered at capitol buildings, statehouses, and other public forums to celebrate the triumph of freedom and the demise of terrorism.
In the days since we have become increasingly aware of the details behind the mission. We have been made aware of the use of SEAL Team Six and their need for anonymity. We have learned about the proper Muslim burial bin Laden was granted. We have learned of the existence of pictures of the event, which will not be released. We have learned that although the leader of this feared terrorist organization is dead, we are still not completely secure. Security at airports, military instillations, and other public and government building are on heightened security.
What do you think about the death of Osama bin Laden? How will this impact the United States and Homeland Security? Although you were very young on September 11, how do you think this event will impact the lives of those directly involved and victimized by the 9/11 terrorist attack?

Ryan Z.- I think that Osama Bin Laden being dead is a really good thing but seriously he should have been dead a long time ago. He's been on the FBI's Most Wanted list for 13 years! we just concluded a 13 year long game of hide-and-seek. It's about time someone killed him!! And it's not like he was hiding really really well, in fact it's harder to find Waldo than it is to find Bin Laden. But the part of this whole story that annoys me the most is Obama saying that he told the CIA to make Bin Laden a top priority! No, let's be clear the CIA found Bin Laden all on their own and maybe at the beginning of his presidency Obama said "wouldn't it be great if we found Bin Laden" but no Barack you had nothing to do with the finding of Bin Laden, it was all the CIA's work and you just tried to take credit for it so you could say that actually did something during your time as president and have something good to say about yourself in 2012.
ReplyDeleteCristina- I think it is a great thing that Osama Bin Laden is dead because he took the live of three thousand of innocent americans.it going to keep the secury the same because there are all ways going to be poeple out there that want to kill us and use our technology or airlines to do it. I would image that there is a relif for those people who had family member that died.
ReplyDeleteTravis- I think it is great that after all this time we've caught him and killed him, not that i'm celebrating one of god's creation's death but i think that after all he did, its only fair. I think we won't have to worry as much about terrorist attacks but on the other hand, his followers might come back with vengeance and be even more crazy. I think that it will live in all of those effected by it forever.
ReplyDeleteDanielle- The death of Bin Laden was really sudden but it is great that they finally caught him. I think all the Americans are so happy with the fact that Bin Laden is dead because he really hurt America.People will feel more safe now that he is gone! I think that the people involved in 9/11 like those in New York are really happy Bin Laden is dead because he killed many people by crashing into one of New York's tallest buildings. It really hurt citizens in New York the most. Especially for all the citizens who lost people in the tradgedy.
ReplyDeleteAngie- "As surely as I live, declares the Sovereign Lord, I take no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but rather that they turn from their ways and live!" -Ezekiel 33:11
ReplyDeleteThis quote is exactly how I feel. When my dad announced that Osama was dead, I wasn't sure how I felt at first. Happy? Confused? Shocked? It was really strange. It's been so many years, and he finally died. I'm not exactly happy that he died, but I'm not sad about it. Does anyone really deserve to be killed? I mean people were celebrating about it and having parties that he was dead. I'm not all depressed that he's dead because he did kill thousand of people in 911 but I'm not going to celebrate about it. Now that Osama's dead, it's going to change a lot of things. Will security change? I'm not sure. We shouldn't be all laid back because he's dead though. I bet a lot of Muslims are mad that the U.S. killed him and are probably going to plot for some weird revenge thing. It's terrible that people lost some of their love ones in 911 and that now he's dead, they will probably be more relieved now. Even if someone does something as bad as killing thousands of people, does anyone really ever deserve to die?
Phillip- I am really really happy that Osama was killed. It is a smal price to pay for the murder of countless innocent people. Now that we killed Osama 2 things could happen: 1.) Al Quiada could just go away because they don't have a leader. 2.) We are going to be attacked like we have a target on our heads. I assume that option 2 is more likely because they are so tightly knit together that they could operate without a leader. I think everyone that was directly involved in 9/11 will be partying until they're dead.
ReplyDeleteSofia- I think that the death of Osama's death was good for the united states. It will help us feel more secure that the taliban leader is dead. I think that the victims of 9/11 feel comfort that he is dead.
ReplyDeleteHalle- I think the death of Osama bin Laden has been beneficial to the united states. we have been llokin for him for ten years and we finally found him. We wont have to worry about being attacked again and trying to get him dead. We won't be paying as much attention to himbut we will still have to pay attention the Al Quaida. I think the people affected by 9/11 will be happy that the person behind the whole thing is gone.
ReplyDeleteMorgan- I think that the death of Osama bin Laden is good because now we know that the main person in charge of all the horriable events is dead.I think that the United States need to have more security because the midd east is going to be looking for payback and im sure they have someone trained to take over Osama bin Laden's position. I think that the people who were affected by 9/11 are happy that Osama bin Laden is dead. The people that were involved with 9/11 can now relax and feel good that the person that killed all those people is now dead.
ReplyDeleteRyan M- i think that the death of osama bin laden was really important because i heard that they were planning another 9-11 kind of thing so i think these trops might have saved another devastating terrist attack. It will effect those two because now their probably scared that the terrorist will plan another attack even though some of their plans were found when they blew up Bin Ladens house. I think they will be a little bit more releaved that it will hopefully not happen again because that was truly devastating for all of us to hear about and it was deffinitly the longest couple of days of no plans and mostly silence all around the united states praying and hoping that we may recover from the horrible attacks.
ReplyDeletejosu- i think it is good that we have killed the leader of an infamous terrorist organization, but that doesnt mean the attaks on america will stop. Osama Bin Ladins folowers will only get furious and filled with rage. attacks on the united states might become more frequent. HIs followers will want revenge. it wont take them long to appoint a new leader. The united states will do a better job of not letting terrorist attacks happen because now they are on the lookout. for the people that were victimized in 9/11 will feel a sense of justice, but also they will be sad when they are remembering the lives that were lost.
ReplyDeleteI think that its is good that Osama Bin Ladin is dead but we shouldn't be out in the streets celebrating someones death no matter who it is. I also find it rude to through his body out at sea. I think that the people in 9/11 feel a sense of justice like josu said because now he is dead and itis kinda like "the tables have turned" I posted on the royal wedding could you please check that mr. Grant
ReplyDeleteThank you,
Love yours truly Luke Murdock
Cooper- thank god Osama Bin Ladan is dead after all this time he should of been dead years ago. I think we still wil have to worry about terriosts attacks because there are more arabs to be killed. I think the people that lost people in 911 are very proud that the americans killed him and got what they wanted.
ReplyDeleteHannah- I think Osama needed to be killed he was responsible for the death of thousands of innocent people. I think it's wrong that people are celebrating it though. People will feel relieved now but there are still terrorists out there. I think people who were impacted by this (well everyone was I mean the people who lost someone) will feel like they have received justice
ReplyDeletegabby- i agree with angie that i would rather have people that have done bad things change their ways instead of die but with him being dead when he caused all those deaths, i feel more secure but lees at the same day. the reason that i feel less secure is because he probably had some sort of plan, like if they kill me do this to them. i think that homeland security should be even more uptight now than ever. i think if i was directly affected by 9/11 i would be almost happy because whoever it had affect would probably feel better with him dead.
ReplyDeleteAtticus- I am so glad that Osama Bin Ladan is dead. He should have been dead a long time ago though. I think that people feel a lot saferin their homes now knowing that Osama is dead but there are still a lot of terrorists out there. I think that people involved in the atack on 9/11 are verry glad that osama is dead.
ReplyDeleteMarya- Osama bin laden used to creep me out when i was a kid. i thought he was living somwhere in my yard underground or something. i am so happy and relived that we got bin laden. but what if his followers plan a huge attack? thats why i am kind of scared. oh u killed our leader we are going to attack u. people whose family and friends died in 9/11 are probably so happy that bin laden is gone.
ReplyDeletekaed- Osama bin laden maybe was in charge of the 9/11 and i know he is a bad guy, but i know people are happy because he died. but i think he was just a person and we need to not celebrate because he is dead and that he killed a lot of people because of the twin towers hit.
