This week Part I of the seventh and last Harry Potter film is set to release on Friday. This is the beginning of the end of the tale which has captured the hearts and minds of readers across the world. The Harry Potter series was written by J.K. Rowling. The first book was released June 30, 1997. Since then more than 400 million books in the series have been sold. The last four books set records for the fastest selling book in history.Since the first release and their immense popularity, the books, movies and characters have become a part of our culture. Whether or not you enjoy the story of Harry Potter, it is difficult to deny the impact it has had on our lives. Many attribute the series with bringing young readers back to books. It would not be a stretch to state the success of Harry Potter has inspired further young reader book series such as Stephanie Meyers’ Twilight series, Rich Riordan’s Percy Jackson series and the resurgence of C.S. Lewis’ books of Narnia.
Have you read the Harry Potter books, seen the movies or both? Do you plan on seeing the Deadly Hallows Part I? What type of books do you enjoy reading and why? What impact has Harry Potter had on our culture?
Hannah- I have read most of the Harry Potter books and I found them quite enjoyable. I do not plan on seeing the movie any time soon- I have not seen any of them because I always try to read the books before I see the movie. I pretty much enjoy any book I can get my hands on- right now my favorite books are, The Hunger Games series and the Percy Jackson Series, and Twilight. I think Harry Potter may have inspired me to like fantasy more, it gets me to expand my thinking and jump into a new world almost. I think Harry Potter has affected our culture by inspiring authors to think outside of the box with their books and to not give up if there ideas are rejected at first(J.K Rowling got rejected a lot before the books were published) also I think children may look up to Harry Potter as a hero
ReplyDeleteDanielle- I haven't read any of the books but I own all the movies. I really do want to see the 7th film. All the other films were really enjoyable and this one probably will probably be the best. I tried reading some of these books but I didn't quite understand them or they didn't quite catch my interest. I'm kind of interested in murder mysteries, and some fantasy. I really enjoyed the Twilight saga and right now I'm reading a book called Virals and it is about anthropology and thats real interesting stuff. People see Harry Potter as like a hero and someone who can't die. He is just wants people to think out of the box like Hannah said. People will not want the series to end!
ReplyDeleteLuke- I have read the first book of Harry Potter and i would suggest them to someone with a very imaginative mind. I am planning on seeing the movie friday or saturday if not sold out... i have watched all the Harry Potter movie and my personal favorite is the fifth movie the Goblet of Fire but all the other films were really enjoyable and i would suggest for people to watch them with family and friends. I personal HATE fantasy for the most part but there are some exceptions and Harry Potter would be an exception.
ReplyDeleteI also think that it is great for someone like J.K Rowling who started writing the Harry Potter books on old napkins to now be able to live in a gigantic house and started a whole new series of books and movies. If harry Potter would be a real person i think many people would look up to him
Danielle- Oh no offense Luke, The Goblet of Fire is the 4th film not the 5th
ReplyDeleteMaddy-I saw saw all of the movies and own them... Yes I saw it last night!!!! I don't really enjoy readying but i pick out books that look good or i pick one out by my favortie sports.. I dont really know what harry potter has done on my culture...
ReplyDeletei have actually never read any of the books but have seen the 1st and 4th movies and i also plan on seeing the new one tonight with my sister and her friends. i personally am into sports related books because i like sports and i also like books about the civil war because that is my favorite war.I myself, am not impacted very much by all this but i think that it is tied to all of our lives because it kinda forced all the other major book series to germinate.
ReplyDeletesorry, Travis wrote that one
ReplyDeleteAngie- I LOVE Harry Potter. I've read the whole series and I've seen all the movies (except the seventh one). I'm planning on seeing the seventh one soon! I love these kind of books. This is my favorite series ever! The way J.K. Rowling puts the plot together and the way she puts the details is amazing. Did you know that she used to be poor and she always went to a coffee shop and wrote the Harry Potter series on napkins? I thought that was cool. Um, I can't really explain whether or not Harry Potter has had an impact on our culture. I can't really tell, but I think that it kind of has. I really love these books and I think that they are WAY better than the movies.
ReplyDeleteHalle-I haven't read any of the books but i do like the movies. I'm pretty excited about seeing the Deathly Hallows except it will leave you hanging so you will have to see the next part. I usually like books that are romance or action or mystery. For some reason i love scary books but hate scary movies. I think it has opened the minds of people to try different types of books to see if you liked them. Harry also inspired some people to try and be heroes.
ReplyDeleteRyan Z.- well to start off, I personally love all of the Harry potter books and have read them all. However sometimes the movies fall a little flat but for the most part are pretty decent. I am really excited to see the Deathly Hallows part 1 but I'm not really sure how true the movie will stay to the book because for anyone who has read the deathly hallows the first part of it was extremely boring! They pretty much just sat around and argued for 200 pages and I'm not sure how good of a movie that would make. So I guess I'll just have wait and see the movie. (((YES I posted this at 1 in the morning!!! Yay for Ryan!)))
ReplyDeletejosu-i have read all the books and i have seen all the movies. i think they are good books only if you have a good imagination otherwise you will heva trouble reading them. i am going to see the new movie for my brothers birthday sometime this week.
ReplyDeletei enjoy reading sports books about kids and proffessionals because i can relate to some of the people. the harry potter books have helped kids relize tha reading could be fun.
Sofia- I haven't read the books but i have seen all of the movies. I went to the premier of the Deathly Hallows part 1 and saw it again this weekend. I like all kinds of books, when i look for books i get which books catch my eye. Harry Potter has impacted our culture by bringing many people to0 be interested in that type of book.
ReplyDeleteSofia- by the way ryan the movie is exactly like book(says my sister)
ReplyDeleteRyan i havent read any of the books but i have faked it so i could se the movies. the movies are really good and i havent read the books so i dont know which one is better. When i pick out a book it usually because one of my freinds has read. but mostly i dont read books.
ReplyDeletePHILLIP- I haven't read any of the Harry Potter books(except for like 2 pages in the first one). I have see all the movies so far though. I saw Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 on Saturday with Brooke, Marya, Daniele, and Shane. I like Fantasy books a little. I also like a good murder-mystery now and then. I like adventures too. EVERYONE knows about Harry Potter. I have not met any one who doesn't (my 2 year old cousin is an exeption.) Now there are little kids dressing up as Harry(there is a page in the U.K. chapter of our book that shows a picture of this.) And, by far, the Harry Potter series is way more popular then the Twighlight series, and thats saying something. ANNOUNCEMENT: From now on i would like to be called "Prime Minister Chicha."
ReplyDeletegabby- i have read all the books and seen all the movies except for harry potter and the deathly hallows part 2.i did plan on seeing the movie and i did. it was great, even though the first part of the deathly hallows seemed boring in the book it was still pretty amazing. i read just about anything i can. i read quite quickly. as long as the book is interesting i cud probably read it in a day or two. i agree that harry potter has effected culture i dont think it has just effected the united states culture, it has effected many other countries. everyone was very excited for the movies and books to come out. which means well a lot of people care and if they do it effects everyone, whether you like harry potter or not. i personally love harry potter!
ReplyDeleteMorgan- I have not read any of the books and have only seen 1 movie. Harry Potter does not interest me in any ways. The one time I saw the movie I disliked it. I am interested in tennis books or teenage stories. I like books that I can relate to in my live. Harry Potter is people flying around on brooms not that interesting. I do not pat that much attention to Harry Potter but I can see that it is everywhere posters, books, anything you want Harry Potter. People talk about it it's all over the Internet. It is a big part of our lives.
ReplyDeleteMarya- I have read all of the books at least twice. I love them! But not as much as Twilight... I saw the Deathly Hallows Part 1 and thought it followed the book very well. It was scarier then the others and had more of a dark side to it. JK Rowling has changed the lives of many people by writing the Harry Potter series. I mean, they built the Harry potter land in Universal Studios!
ReplyDeleteKaed- Actually I just watched the Harry Potter the Deathly Hollows today and it was really good. I have seen all of the movies, but I have not read the series, but pretty soon I am going to. There are tons of books that I like to read. Mostly mysteries and action books. I also liked the percy jackson series and saw the movie, but the movie was horrible. I think the Harry Potter changed are culture in different ways, and I think the books really made the people watch the movie because the books,I've heard, were pretty good.
ReplyDeleteCooper- I read the first 2 books and seen all the movies so far. I havent seen the Deathly Hollows and dont know if im going to go.I enjoy reading sports biographies because im interested in how athletes have learned to excell at sports and what motivates them. our culture has been effected by the the vocabulary from the story, words like muggle, quidich and others are used all the time.
ReplyDeletecristina- i havnt read any harry potter books but seen all the movies. i really enjoy them and they have great story line. i gave heard though that they are not like the book though nut lots of movies are like that. I would like to see the Deathly Hallows but i think thats not going to happen. i really like mysterys and non fiction and ficton books they all interest me. it also effects people because theey love it!!
ReplyDeleteAtticus- I have read all the harry potter books and seen all the movies except the last one I cant wait to see what it is about. I have enjoyed these books because they have a lot of suspence and lodes of action. The reason I like these tipes of books is because I find them enjoyable and quight intertaining. Yes I do plan on seeing deathly hallows part 1 hopefly this weekend. this has impacted my culture by making a lot of people that i know ubsesed with harry potter.
