September 11, 2001 will go down in history as one of the longest, scariest, and most significant days the United States has ever witnessed. The events of the day will forever be remembered and memorialized. In addition to the despicable acts of terrorism, we witnessed countless acts of heroism as people, communities, and cities united to rescue and protect each other from the evil acts committed against the United States and its way of life.
At 8:45 am the first plane crashed into the North Tower of the World Trade Center. The crash instantly killed hundreds of innocent people and trapped hundreds more above the 110th floor. While emergency crews sprang into action, a mere 18 minutes later a second plane crashed into the South Tower. It was evident to all, this was not a coincidence, the United States was under attack.
At 9:45 am a third plane crashed into the Pentagon in Washington, DC. The jet fuel created a devastating fire causing a small structural collapse.
15 minutes after the Pentagon crash, the South Tower collapsed. It was less then one hour from the time the plane crashed into the building to when it fell to the ground. At 10:10, the country became aware of a fourth plane wreck. United Flight 93 left Newark, NJ late. 40 minutes after departure, terrorists took control of the plane. As a result of its late departure, the passengers on board were aware of the events in New York and Washington. They decide to take action. The passengers united and overtook the the terrorist and in the process crashed the plane into a Pennsylvanian field. The terrorists' target of destruction was never known, but many speculate the White House or the Capitol.
At 10:30, the inevitable occurred. The North Tower of the World Trade Center collapsed. While the nation watched in awe, the brave firefighters, paramedics, police officers, and other city officials continued to respond to their call to duty. Due to the devastation created when the Twin Towers collapsed, four other building would fall to the ground throughout the day.
As the day concluded we began to hear the devastating carnage from the day. In New York City approximately 3,000 people were killed, including 343 firefighters and paramedics, 23 police officers and 37 Port Authority officers. In Washington, DC., 125 military personnel and civilians were killed in addition to the 64 people on board the flight. An additional 45 people were killed in the Pennsylvanian field from Flight 93.
The events of September 11, 2001 forever changed our lives. How do you feel your life has beeen affected by the events of September 11th? How do you think the American way of life has changed?
This has changed the way of American life in so many ways. People who lost friends or loved ones will never live the same way. I think that all of us in America feel sad and grieve for every single person who was lost. It's affected the airline companies who make the security more efficient. It's affected the rescue people, firefighters. and policemen who were there that day. But most of all, it's affected Americans. It's as if everyone in America is connected and sharing the same heart and feelings.
ReplyDeleteWait!! that was comment was by Marya. I forgot my name.
ReplyDeleteDanielle- 9/11 changed lives so much. It think that everyone was really sad, especially people who were really close to people that died that day. It has made me really sad because i bet it was horrid to see those buildings collapse. I saw it on television so it made me really sad too. 9/11 was a really sad day and broke hearts of many american citizens.
ReplyDeleteSofia- I think that The AMerican way of life was greatly impacted by September 11, 2001 in many ways such as: People lost their family members and friends and they will never get to see them again, the area around the World Trade Center was also greatly impacted. I think that my life has been impacted by this day also, It is a day of grief and sadness and that gives me a day to reflect on what happened to all of those unfortunate poeple. It also gives me time to think about the history that was made on that day and how the culture was affected. =D
ReplyDeleteRyan M- i think that it has changed our lives and hte people of amarica. many people lost their family members and their freinds. i could not believe how many casualties there were on September 11,2001. many of hte important buildings were destroyed like the pentagon and the world trade centers. this day was one of hte most horrific days in hte amarican history and it will be for ever known.
ReplyDeleteMorgan- I think our lives have changed because everybody is much more alert looking for people to attak. I think we are safer because we know it could happen and we are ready if it happens.Example, airports have security you can not get through the detecture if you have metal or any weapons. If you seem suspicious they will check you through and ask you quetions. Also the security is alot better just in general for the president, office buildings, and everything else. We have security all around us. 9-11 was a very tragic event. I think everybody remebers it and it will always be thought of.
ReplyDeletegabby- september 11 didnt really affect me that much.i was like two and on the other side of the country. but im sure the it affected america and maybe even the whole world. it changed the way airports work, they are more careful with what they let on the plan. some people might think that its crazy what they dont allow on the planes but its all the safety of like .... everyone. it has changed america
ReplyDeleteTravis-I think that the way of life of typical americans have changed in a way that doesn't drastically change our every day life but for example, we have to go through extensive security checks. And, like Mr. Grant said, its not hard to find someone that you know that was affected by the 9/11 attack, so those people are affected greatly. They are affected by the scariness of being in that attack or by losing a loved one in the attack.
ReplyDeleteTravis-sorry, extensive security checks at the airport.
ReplyDeleteAngie- I think that 9/11 definitley changed and effected everyone's lives. Many lives were lost from the plane crash. Now the security is more careful at airports and such. And they covered the room where the pilot was so you can't even see him/her. I remember when I was a kid, they used to let children go up to that control room and let you talk to the pilot. Then they showed you all the controls and buttons. I remember I thought it was so cool when I was little. It makes me sad that kids aren't able to do that anymore, but it is safer if that room is kept sealed. We can't have something like 9/11 happening again. It's very depressing, especially when watching the videos. :(
ReplyDeleteHalle- 9/11 changed and affected many American's lives. I know it affected me a lot considering what happened in class on friday :). As Angie said the security is more secure and they are much more alert in the airport and on the airplanes. And as she said again they close and lock where the pilots are so nobody can get in and you can't see them. And by the way I'm okay now and this doesn't scare me i promise.
ReplyDeleteHannah- 9/11 has changed and affected our American way of life in many ways. 9/11 caused many deaths and injuries. Now when people think of New York they think of the Twin Towers falling and all the fear. I can't even imagine what it would of been like to be there. Every one of us still grieves the people who were lost and the brave people who risked their lives to save others. I think it still shocks all of us today. This event made airlines much more secure as well. This was a really sad event that will be remembered forever. :(
ReplyDeletePhillip- I think 9/11 will be remembered centuries after we've all died. Our great great grandchildren will be reading about it in history books. It would be so scary to be in the planes or the twin towers when this happened. I think the people that took the plane back are true American heros. It would take so much courage to stand up to them. I'll end this comment with a quote from one of the people who took the plane back. "We all know that were going to die, but three of us are going to do something a bout it." (That was in the newspaper Mr. Grant showed us.)
ReplyDeletePhillip- That video Mr.Grant showed us in class made me realize how much damage it cost. i know it was catastrophic before, but now... I'm speachless.
ReplyDeleteRyan Z.- I think that the American way of life has changed hugely because now we have greater security measures and are more aware of what the rest of the world is like. Before 9/11 we had almost no security but now we haven't had a successful terrorist bombing in 9 years. I also think that we will never be able to forget the tragedies of 9/11 and it will go down in history as one of the blackest days in American history right next to the JFK assassination, pearl harbor, and Watergate.
ReplyDeleteCristina!!- September 11 should be remember in American history for ever. People where suprised that the Twin Towers fell to the ground. Thousands of people died. It was a terrible day for lots of families who lost love ones in the plane or in the building. Thanks be to god that now the planes have locked doors where the pilot drives. From that traggity, we are now safer because nine years ago, our security was not the greatest. Thank you Mr. Grant for showing that video so that we know to be awear. It to bad that muslum people hate Americans because we are superb. Thanks again for showing the video because i bet that lots of people in our class did not know that much about 9/11. :.( (P.s. soooo happy we are greatful to have you as a TEACHER!!)
ReplyDeleteCristina- Why did marya put her picture of Micheal Jackson up there? Can we do that? Srry that posted again....
ReplyDeletejosu-9/11 has changed so many people lives that now airport security is a lot tighter and strict. Everywhere you go on a plane the security is on you like crazy. Its changed the way Americans treat and think about each other much better after this terrorist attack. Now we know that Amrica is not as protected as we thought it was. We need to be ready for something like this to happen again.
ReplyDeleteLuke- i think that the 9/11 attack helped us greatly and was a horrific site it helped us cause our security is now much more safe and no one will be able to hijack a plane easily again. but how many souls where lost for no good reason is terrible the attack of 9/11 was terrible but was a learning curve
ReplyDeleteCooper- when i think about 9/11 it makes me upset, but I am glad to live in a safe environment. We now have better security and awareness. We have learned a lot from the the 9/11 tragedy. i also think our communities have come together since then. god bless America.
ReplyDeleteAtticus- I think 9/11 changed my life because there are safer plains and there are lots of things that are safer now that people realize what other people can do when they are mad. I think this is a really importand day in history
ReplyDeletekaed- well i think that 911 really struck us hard. but after 911 the America changed. For example, the planes. They have installed a door in an airplane to keep people out. Banks have changed. Security has changed. and it also change the peoples live because we are more aware.
ReplyDeleteMaddy- I think since the 9/11 happened secrity is better and safer. So it won't happen again...
